Altering Boundaries of Counties of Bruce and Clutha.

A PROCLAMATION.

I N exercise and pursuance of the powers vested in me by “The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882,” and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that from and after the first day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, all that portion of land mentioned and described in the First Schedule hereto shall be added to the County of Bruce; and that from and after the said date the boundaries of the said County of Bruce shall be those set forth in the Third Schedule hereto; and that from the date aforesaid the boundaries of the County of Clutha shall be those set forth in the Second Schedule hereto respectively.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

LAND TAKEN FROM THE COUNTY OF CLUTHA AND ADDED TO THE COUNTY OF BRUCE.

ALL that area in the Provincial District of Otago, bounded towards the North-east, East, and South-east by a line along the middle of the Matau branch of the Clutha River; and towards the South-west and North by a line along the middle of the Koau branch of the said Clutha River.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

COUNTY OF CLUTHA.

BOUNDED towards the North by Tuapeka County from a point in the middle of the Back Creek, in Rankleburn Survey District, due west from Trig. Station D, said survey district, to the middle of the Clutha River; towards the East and North-east by a line along the middle of the said Clutha River and the Koau branch thereof to the mouth of the said Clutha River; towards the South-east by the ocean to Chasland’s Mistake; towards the South-west by a right line to Blackhorn Hill; thence again towards the South-west, North-west, and North by the summit of the watershed over Bleak Hill to Catlin’s Cone; thence again towards the North-west by a right line to the source of the Waipahi River; thence towards the South and again towards the South-west by a line along the middle of the said Waipahi River to a point due east from the north side of a road traversing Section No. 4, Block XI., Waipahi Survey District; thence by the said road to the eastern boundary-line of the Waikaka Survey District; towards the West by the said Waikaka Survey District to its northern boundary-line; towards the South by the Waikaka Survey District aforesaid to the eastern boundary-line of the Chatton Survey District; again towards the West by the eastern boundary-line of the said Chatton Survey District and that line produced to the middle of the Leithen River; again towards the North-east by a line along the middle of the said Leithen River to its confluence with the Pomahaka River; again towards the North-east and North-west by a line along the middle of the said Pomahaka River to its confluence with the Back Creek, and by a line along the middle of the said Back Creek to the place of commencement.

THIRD SCHEDULE.

COUNTY OF BRUCE.

BOUNDED towards the North-east by Taieri County; towards the South-east by the ocean from the mouth of the Taieri River to the mouth of the Clutha River; towards the South-west by Clutha County; and towards the North-west by Tuapeka County.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this second day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.
