Defining the Middle Line of Further Portion of the Hurunui–Waitaki and Picton–Hurunui Railways (Portion of Horseley Downs and Pahau Sections).

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the Hurunui–Waitaki and Picton–Hurunui Railways are two of the railways specified in the First Schedule to “The Public Works Act, 1879,” and which Act is, in the seventh section thereof, declared to be a special Act authorizing the construction of such railways; and such railways are unfinished, and it has been determined to construct and maintain a further portion of the same:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the aforesaid section seven of “The Public Works Act, 1879,” and by sections one hundred and twenty-nine and one hundred and thirty of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” and in exercise of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the middle line of the said further portion of the said railways shall be as defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

Commencing at a point situated about 50 chains in a southerly direction from the Hurunui River, said point being a deviation for about 10 chains in an easterly direction of the point of termination of the Waikari–Hurunui Section of the Hurunui–Waitaki Railway, main line, as described in the Proclamation dated the 17th May, 1882, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 46, of the 18th May, 1882; proceeding thence generally in an east-north-easterly direction for a distance of 10 miles 46½ chains, more or less, passing in, into, through, or over the following lands, viz.: In the Provincial District of Canterbury and Waipara Road District, Crown lands; in the Provincial District of Nelson and Amuri Road District, Sections Nos. 58, 90, 140, 140, 259, 260, 258, 263, 262, 55, 272, 271, 279, 281, 280, 3, 126, 111, 112, 113, 222; and all intervening places, roads, reserves, streams, rivers, and watercourses; and terminating at a point situated on the northern side of a public road and distant about 13 chains in a northerly direction from the southernmost corner of said Section No. 222; in the manner delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 11157, signed by the Hon. Edwin Mitchelson, the Minister for Public Works, and deposited in the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court at Christchurch, in the Provincial District of Canterbury; the total length being 10 miles 46½ chains or thereabouts.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto is vested in a certain aboriginal native of New Zealand, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is the intention of His Excellency the Governor, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said land.
