no other business than that so specified shall be transacted at such meeting.

  1. Any three of the said Board shall form a quorum. Any meeting may be adjourned from time to time.

  2. The members of the Board shall, at their first meeting, and thereafter at an annual meeting to be held on the second Monday in January in every succeeding year thereafter, elect one of themselves to be Chairman, who may join in the discussion, and shall have an original as well as a casting vote. The Chairman shall hold office until the election of his successor.

  3. If at any meeting the Chairman is not present at the time appointed for holding the same, the members present shall choose some one of their number to be Chairman of such meeting.

  4. If, by resignation, death, or incapacity, or otherwise, the office of Chairman shall be or become vacant, the members may at any monthly or special meeting appoint a Chairman.

  5. All questions shall be determined by the majority of votes of the members of the Board present at a meeting.

Notice of Intention to change the Purpose of a Reserve.

WHEREAS by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” it is, amongst other things, enacted that the Governor may declare his intention to make, change, exchange, or alter the dedication of any public reserve now or hereafter vested in Her Majesty or the Governor for any of the purposes named in Class II. of the Schedule to the said Act, whether the same be granted or not; and, in the case of any reserves made under the authority of section one hundred and forty-four of “The Land Act, 1877,” if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to change the purpose of such reserves or any part thereof from the purpose or presumed purpose for which it was set apart to any other purpose, or if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to exchange any of the land comprised in such reserve for other land of equal value, to be dedicated to one or more purposes named in the said Class II., the Governor may, by notice in the Gazette, declare his intention to make such change, exchange, or dedication, as the case may be, and in such notice declare the manner and terms in which the same is intended to be so made:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” aforesaid, declare my intention to change the specific purpose of the reserve described in the first column of the Schedule hereto to the specific purpose set opposite such description in the second column of the said Schedule.


SCHEDULE.

Description and Purpose of Reserve. Intended Purpose.
All that parcel of land in the Township of Waitara, Provincial District of Taranaki, being Block 115, and containing 15 acres, more or less. Bounded towards the North-west by Cameron Street; towards the North-east by Browne Street; towards the South-east by Whitaker Street; and towards the South-west by Cracroft Street. Reserved as a site for buildings or other purposes of the General Government. For a recreation-ground.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this eleventh day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

Vaccination Stations at Ashley-Clinton, Kopua, and Ongaonga, Hawke’s Bay, abolished.

WHEREAS by a warrant under the hand of the Governor, dated the twentieth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two, the Schoolhouse at Ashley-Clinton, in the Provincial District of Hawke’s Bay,

was appointed a place at which the Public Vaccinator appointed for the District of Ashley-Clinton should attend for the performance of vaccination: And whereas by a warrant dated the twenty-third day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one, the Railway-station at Kopua, and the Schoolhouse at Ongaonga, in the said provincial district, were appointed places at which the Public Vaccinators appointed for the Districts of Norsewood and Waipukurau respectively should attend for the performance of vaccination: And whereas it has been found unnecessary that the Public Vaccinators should attend at such places for such purpose:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of all powers enabling us in that behalf, do hereby declare that from and after the day of the date hereof the Schoolhouse at Ashley-Clinton, the Railway-station at Kopua, and the Schoolhouse at Ongaonga, in the County of Waipawa, shall cease to be places at which the Public Vaccinators for the aforesaid districts shall attend for the performance of vaccination.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this sixteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

Governors of New Zealand Institute appointed.

WHEREAS by “The New Zealand Institute Act, 1867,” provision is made for the appointment of members of a Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute, and it is enacted that, on the first day of November, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, and on the first day of November in each succeeding year, three members of the said Board of Governors shall retire from office, but shall be eligible for reappointment: And whereas the Honourable George Randall Johnson, James Hector, Esquire, and William Thomas Locke Travers, Esquire, three of the members of the said Board of Governors, have retired from office, and are eligible for reappointment under the provisions of the said Act: And whereas by the said Act it is also provided that, on the annual retirement of the said three members, the successors of such retiring members shall be appointed by the Governor:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis William Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in that behalf vested in me by the said Act, do hereby appoint

The Honourable GEORGE MARSDEN WATERHOUSE, M.L.C., JAMES HECTOR, Esquire, M.D., C.M.G., F.R.S., and WILLIAM THOMAS LOCKE TRAVERS, Esquire, F.L.S.,

to be Governors of the institution called the New Zealand Institute.
