Constituting Native Rating Districts under “The Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882.”

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority contained in the fourth section of “The Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882,” I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that the several districts in the colony described in the Schedule hereto shall be and the same are hereby proclaimed to be Native rating districts under the said Act.

SCHEDULE.

In this Schedule, unless otherwise expressed, the references to counties, ridings, and road districts shall be deemed to refer to the boundaries of such counties, ridings, and road districts as the same respectively exist at the date of the foregoing Proclamation.

All that portion of the County of Mongonui comprised within the boundaries of the Oruaiti Road District.

The County of Bay of Islands.

The County of Hokianga.

All that portion of the County of Whangarei comprised within the boundaries of the Maunu, Otaika, and Otonga East Road Districts, and the outlying districts of the Hikurangi and Ngunguru Ridings.

All that portion of the County of Rodney comprised within the boundaries of the Whakapirau Road District and the outlying district of the Albert Riding, and also the Mangawai Riding as existing prior to the 21st December, 1883.

All that portion of the County of Waitemata comprised within the boundaries of the Waitakerei West Road District, and the outlying district of the Ararimu Riding.

All that portion of the County of Manukau comprised within the boundaries of the outlying district of the Maungatawhiri Riding.

The County of Coromandel.

All that portion of the County of Thames comprised within the boundaries of the outlying districts of the Totara and Ohinemuri Ridings.

All that portion of the County of Raglan comprised within the boundaries of the Karioi and Whaingaroa Road Districts, and the outlying district of the Whangape Riding.

All that portion of the County of Piako comprised within the boundaries of the Matamata and Waitoa Road Districts, and the outlying districts of the Matamata and Patetere Ridings.

All that portion of the County of Tauranga comprised within the boundaries of the Te Puna Road District and the outlying district of the Waimapu Riding.

All that portion of the County of Whakatane comprised within the boundaries of the Opotiki and Whakatane Road Districts.

All that portion of the County of Cook comprised within the boundaries of the Arai Road District and the outlying districts of the Tolago, Waiapu, and Arai Ridings.

The County of Wairoa.

All that portion of the County of Hawke’s Bay comprised within the boundaries of the Patea and Maraekakaho Road Districts, and also that portion of the Petane Road District situated outside the Provincial District of Hawke’s Bay.

All that portion of the County of Waipawa comprised within the boundaries of the Danevirk, Norsewood, and Ormondville Road Districts.

All that portion of the County of Taranaki comprising some 8,530 acres of Native lands taken into the Oakura Road District on the 18th May, 1883, and that portion comprised within the boundaries of the Parihaka Road District.

All that portion of the County of Hawera comprised within the boundaries of the Waimate Road District.

All that portion of the County of Patea comprised within the boundaries of the outlying district of the county as existing prior to the 16th November, 1883.

The County of Wanganui.

All the County of Rangitikei, with the exception of the Lethbridge Town District.

All that portion of the County of Manawatu comprised within the boundaries of the Otaki Road District.

The County of Wairarapa East.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, this twenty-first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.
