shall have been proved that not less than 20,000 ounces of
gold have been extracted from the new gold field within two
years from the registration of the discovery, if in alluvial
workings, and, if in quartz workings, proof of a similar yield
from this source within three years from such registration
will be required.

  1. Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being
    desirous of obtaining a reward, shall immediately forward a
    written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to the
    Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within which
    such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or Resident
    Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an applica-
    tion for reward.

  2. No prospecting is allowed upon Native land without the
    approval in writing of the Native Minister, or of some one
    appointed by him in that behalf.

Prospectors going upon Native land without the consent
of the owners are liable to the penalties imposed by the Acts
relating to gold fields, and will forfeit all claim to reward.

Native School Site at Tangitiroria.

THE following report of the person appointed by the
Governor, under the provisions of “The Native Schools
Sites Act, 1880,” to ascertain the title of certain Natives to
land at Tangitiroria, in the County of Hobson, appropriated
by them for the site of a school, having been adopted by the
Governor, is published in accordance with the said Act.

SIR,—Having been appointed under the hand of His Ex-
cellency the Governor to make inquiry, under “The Native
School Sites Act, 1880,” in relation to a certain piece of land
known by the name of Waikiekie, situate upon the Northern
Wairoa River, I have the honour to report, for the information
of the Government, that, in accordance with advertisement, I
proceeded to Poroti, to hold the inquiry, on Friday, the 24th
day of October ultimo; and, finding the principal Natives
absent through illness, I adjourned the inquiry to Tangiti-
roria, on Thursday, the 27th November last, when I met
Tito Papa and other chiefs of the Uriroroi hapu.

They unanimously agreed that the said piece of land, Wai-
kickie, was the property of Tito Papa, and consented to his
giving the same, under the provisions of “The Native Schools
Sites Act, 1880,” as a site for the Tangitiroria School, the
acreage as shown by the surveyed plan, and that the same
should vest in Her Majesty the Queen from said date.

They also requested that the school should be opened as
early as possible by the Education Department.

DESCRIPTION.

All that parcel of land in the County of Hobson, being
Section No. 5510; Block VII., Maungaru Survey District,
containing by admeasurement 3 acres, more or less. Bounded
towards the North-west by the road from Wairea to Manga-
pai, 500 links; towards the North-east by a line at right
angles with said road, 600 links; towards the South-east by
a line parallel to said road, 500 links; and towards the South-
west by a line at right angles with said road, 600 links: as
the same is delineated on the plans in the Survey Office,
Auckland.

Notice under “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act,
1883.”

WHEREAS the estate and interest of Hoani Meke and
Kingita Ngahoro, aboriginal natives of New Zealand,
in the land described in the Schedule hereto, is vested in
Anaru Kune, as Trustee under the provisions of “The Maori
Real Estate Management Act, 1867,” and the several amend-
ments thereof, subject to certain restrictions on the aliena-
tion of such land, and application has been made for the
removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is intended, immediately after
the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this
notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said
restrictions on the alienation of the said land in respect of
the interests aforesaid, in order that the said lands may be
leased by the said Trustee for a term of twenty-one years
from the twelfth day of March, one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-four.

Dated at Wellington, this twenty-second day of November,
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-four.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that piece or parcel of land in the Provincial District of
Hawke’s Bay, containing by admeasurement 26,300 acres,
more or less, being called or known by the name of the
Purahotangihia Block, on the plan deposited in the Survey
Office at Napier. Bounded on the North and North-east by
the Maungaharuru Block, the Waikoau Stream, and the
Arapawanui and Tongoio Blocks; on the South by Morris
Block, and the Petane and the Pakuratahi Blocks; and on
the West by the Waiohinganga or Esk River: excepting and
reserving thereout as a reserve for the lessors all that parcel
of land, portion of the said block, containing by estimation
400 acres, and contained in a straight line drawn from the
north-east portion of the Pakuratahi Block, at a gate in the
track between the lands hereby demised and the Pakuratahi
Block, and thence running northerly till it meets the creek,
running at right angles from the waterfall in the creek form-
ing the boundary between the lands hereby demised and the
Tongoio Block.

Alterations in the Scale of Fares and Charges in force on
New Zealand Railways.

IN accordance with section 144 of “The Public Works
Act, 1882,” I, Edward Richardson, Minister for Public
Works, do hereby make the following alteration in the scale
of charges, to come into force on and after the 29th day of
December, 1884:—

PART II.—PARCELS.
LOCAL RATES.

Rangiora and Christchurch.

For the purpose of computing the charges for parcels
conveyed between Rangiora and Christchurch, the distance
will be deemed to be 14 miles.

Public Notice under “The Property Assessment Act, 1879,”
Section 76.

Property-Tax Department,
Wellington, 27th November, 1884.

NOTICE is hereby given that property-tax under “The
Property Tax Act, 1884,” for the year commencing on
the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-four, will be payable as follows:—

(1.) In respect of the duty of three-eighths of a penny,
where the amount of such duty shall be under two
hundred and fifty pounds, the same shall be paid on
the twenty-second day of December, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-four:

And where such duty amounts to two hundred and
fifty pounds, or exceeds that sum, the same shall be
paid in two equal instalments, the first of such instal-
ments being payable on the said twenty-second day of
December, and the second of such instalments on the
second day of February, one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-five.

(2.) In respect of the duty on fire, marine, or guarantee
policies issued by any insurance company, the same
shall be paid on the tenth day of March, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-five.

And notice is hereby further given that the places in each
district where the said tax shall be paid shall be any post-
office within such district which is also a money-order office,
except in the district of Wellington, in which district the
tax shall be paid at any such post office as aforesaid, and at
the office of the Property-Tax Commissioner, at the Govern-
ment Buildings, Wellington.
