Notice under “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1883.”

WHEREAS the estate and interest of Hoani Meke and Kingita Ngahoro, aboriginal natives of New Zealand, in the land described in the Schedule hereto, is vested in Anaru Kune, as Trustee under the provisions of “The Maori Real Estate Management Act, 1867,” and the several amendments thereof, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is intended, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said land in respect of the interests aforesaid, in order that the said lands may be leased by the said Trustee for a term of twenty-one years from the twelfth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

Dated at Wellington, this twenty-second day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that piece or parcel of land in the Provincial District of Hawke’s Bay, containing by admeasurement 26,300 acres, more or less, being called or known by the name of the Purahotangihia Block, on the plan deposited in the Survey Office at Napier. Bounded on the North and North-east by the Maungaharuru Block, the Waikoau Stream, and the Arapawanui and Tongoio Blocks; on the South by Morris Block, and the Petane and the Pakuratahi Blocks; and on the West by the Waichinganga or Esk River: excepting and reserving thereout as a reserve for the lessors all that parcel of land, portion of the said block, containing by estimation 400 acres, and contained in a straight line drawn from the north-east portion of the Pakuratahi Block, at a gate in the track between the lands hereby demised and the Pakuratahi Block, and thence running northerly till it meets the creek, running at right angles from the waterfall in the creek forming the boundary between the lands hereby demised and the Tongoio Block.

TRANSLATION.

“THE Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882,” and the Amendment thereof.

To each and every the owner or owners of land described in the substituted valuation rolls of Native lands supplied to the local bodies, the names of which are set forth in the Schedule hereunder, under the provisions of the above Acts and all other Acts affecting the same or relating thereto.

WHEREAS demand having been made to me, the undersigned, Colonial Treasurer of the Colony of New Zealand, in accordance with the provisions of “The Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882,” by or on behalf of the said local bodies, for payment of the rates appearing to be payable under or by virtue of the said rolls:

Notice is hereby given to you and each and every of you that rolls of Native lands are now deposited at the offices of the said several local bodies, which said rolls are in the Maori language, and show the rateable value of the Native lands therein mentioned or described, and the amount of rates due in respect thereof under the said Act.

And you and each and every of you, the owners of the said lands, are hereby required and directed to pay the said rates on or before the fifteenth day of December, 1884, such payment to be made by you at the office of the local body in whose district the lands affected are respectively comprised, and as noted in the said Schedule.

FIJI ISLANDS.—SUNKEN PATCH, NANANU CHANNEL, NORTH COAST, VITI LEVU.

NOTICE is hereby given that a floating beacon, showing as a vertical post 6 feet high and painted red, has been moored in 5 fathoms, on the southern edge of a sunken coral patch situated to the southward of the south-west extreme of Nananu Island, North Coast, Viti Levu.

The patch extends in a north and south direction for about 300 yards, by about 100 yards broad; the least water found on it being 2½ fathoms near its centre. Bearings from beacon: Right extreme of small low island to northward in line with Native house on point of Nananu Island, N.N.E. (magnetic), and Bluff Point to south-eastward on with north shoulder of Tovu Peak, S.E. ½ E. (magnetic).

Directions: Vessels should leave the beacon on the starboard hand, going westward, and not alter course to the northward until nearly a cable clear.

IT is hereby notified that, after representations made by the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, the name of Louis Sinclair (registered on production of diploma of Licentiate in Dental Surgery, R.C.S.I., dated 19th June, 1882) has been erased from the Dentists’ Register for New Zealand, in pursuance of provisions of section 5, “Dentists Act Amendment Act, 1881.”
