THE HONOURABLE THE COLONIAL TREASURER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand the Short Title whereof is “The Post Office Act, 1881,” it is, among other things, enacted that, in respect of places beyond the colony, the Governor in Council may from time to time fix, alter, and abolish the rates of postage payable within the colony for the transmission of letters by post to or from places beyond seas, and appoint at what time the same shall be paid, and the postage so made payable shall be charged and paid accordingly: And whereas by the said Act the expression “letters” is defined to include post letters and packets, post-cards, newspapers, books of every kind, and every packet or letter which by any regulation is directed to be treated as a letter: And whereas by an Order in Council made and issued under the authority of the hereinbefore recited enactment on the twenty-eighth day of October, 1884, certain rates of postage were fixed and made payable as therein set forth, and to take effect on the date therein mentioned: And whereas it is expedient that further or other provision should be made for the purposes aforesaid:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority contained in the hereinbefore in part recited Act, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in this behalf, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order and declare as follows, that is to say,—
- On and after the date when this Order in Council shall be published in the New Zealand Gazette the rate of postage to be charged on all letters, book-packets, and newspapers transmitted from New Zealand to any place in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, by way of Suez or Brindisi, shall be and the same is hereby fixed as herein set forth, that is to say,—
On all letters, one shilling per half-ounce or fraction of half an ounce;.
On all book-packets and parcels, threepence for every two ounces or fraction of two ounces;
On all newspapers, twopence each.
The said postage shall, in all such cases, be prepaid in New Zealand by postage-stamps, to be affixed upon the covers of the letters, book-packets, or newspapers so sent.
- That all letters, book-packets, and newspapers received in New Zealand in mails despatched from the United Kingdom on and after the seventh day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five, by way of Brindisi and Suez, and upon which postage has not been prepaid in postage-stamps at the rates hereinbefore fixed, shall be charged with a further rate of postage equal to the difference between such first-mentioned rates and the postage actually affixed to such letters, book-packets, and newspapers.
The rate of postage hereby fixed shall be payable on all such letters, book-packets, and newspapers on delivery in the colony to the persons to whom the same are addressed.

WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto were reserved for gravel-pits: And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, it is expedient to vest the said lands in the Road Board of the West Eyreton District:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the fourth section of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” doth hereby declare that, from and after the day of the date hereof, the said reserves shall become vested in the Road Board of the West Eyreton District, in trust, for gravel-pits.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in me by “The Public Works Act, 1882,” and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, order that a road, having an average width of one hundred links, and extending westerly from the Waikato or Tongariro River, at Tokanu, to the Wanganui River, at Taumarunui, shall be constructed on or through land held or occupied by Native owners.

Notice of Intention to change the Purpose of a Portion of a Reserve.

WHEREAS by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” it is, amongst other things, enacted that the Governor may declare his intention to make, change, exchange, or alter the dedication of any public reserve now or hereafter vested in Her Majesty or the Governor for any of the purposes named in Class II. of the Schedule to the said Act, whether the same be granted or not; and, in the case of any reserves made under the authority of section one hundred and forty-four of “The Land Act, 1877,” if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to change the purpose of such reserves or any part thereof from the purpose or presumed purpose for which it was set apart to any other purpose, or if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to exchange any of the land comprised in such reserve for other land of equal value, to be dedicated to one or more purposes named in the said Class II., the Governor may, by notice in the Gazette, declare his intention to make such change, exchange, or dedication, as the case may be, and in such notice declare the manner and terms in which the same is intended to be so made:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” aforesaid, declare my intention to change the specific purpose of a portion of the reserve described in the first column of the Schedule hereto, the area of which is described in the second column of the said Schedule, to the specific purpose set opposite such description in the third column of the said Schedule.
