Changing the Purpose of a Portion of a Reserve in Canterbury.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-first day of October, 1884.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS the land mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto was reserved for Provincial Government and other public purposes: And whereas the said reserve is for one of the purposes comprised in Class I. of the Schedule to “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” and in the opinion of the Governor it is expedient to change the purpose of such reserve to another of the purposes named in Class I., as hereinafter mentioned:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” doth hereby order and direct that the purpose of the portion of the reserve mentioned in the second column of the Schedule hereto shall be changed from the purposes specified in the first column of the Schedule hereto to that specified in the third column of the Schedule hereto, the same being one of the purposes comprised in Class I. of the Schedule to the said Act.

SCHEDULE.

Description and Purpose of Reserve. Area of which the Purpose is intended to be changed. Intended Purpose.
Section No. 1261 (in red) in the Ashburton Survey District. Reserved for Provincial Government and other public purposes. All that parcel of land in the Ashburton Survey District, Provincial District of Canterbury containing 28 acres 1 rood 24 perches, more or less, being part of Reserve No. 1261 (in red). Bounded towards the North-westward by Reserve No. 2471 (in red), 1424 links; North-eastward by a road-line, 1894·4 links; South-eastward by a road-line, 1424 links; and South-westward by Section No. 5800, 1894·4 links: and numbered 2644 (in red) on the official map in the Survey Office, Christchurch. A site for a cattle-market.

Regulation respecting Maori Jurors.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-first day of October, 1884.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS by section four of “The Juries Act, 1880” (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”), it is enacted that any Maori whose capability may be certified under any regulations in that behalf, to be from time to time issued by the Governor in Council (which regulations the said Governor in Council is thereby authorized to make), shall be deemed to be duly qualified and liable to serve as a juror on any Maori jury or mixed jury for the trial of any case, civil or criminal, within the jury district in which such Maori so certified shall reside, and in which case the person or property of any Maori may be affected: And whereas it is expedient to make regulations for certifying the capability of Maoris for the purposes aforesaid:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by the said Act, doth hereby order and declare as follows:—

Every Maori man between the ages of twenty-one and sixty years of age, who shall be of good fame and character, who shall reside within the colony, and whose capacity to serve as a juror shall have been certified to the Jury Officer of the jury district within which such Maori man shall reside by a Resident Magistrate having jurisdiction within such district, shall be liable and qualified to serve as a juror upon all juries which may be empanelled for any trial or inquiry within such jury district, and in which trial or inquiry the person or property of any Maori may be affected.

Native Land taken for Portion of Hutt Station on Wellington-Napier Railway (Wellington-Woodville Section).

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-fifth day of September, 1884.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in him by “The Public Works Act, 1882,” and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order that the Government work known as the Wellington-Napier Railway shall and may be constructed on or through the parcel of land more particularly described in the Schedule hereto, and delineated in the plan marked P.W.D. 11482, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington, in the said colony.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that piece or parcel of land containing by admeasurement 3 acres and 4 perches, being part of Section No. 20, Hutt District (Block VIII., Belmont Survey District), comprising parts of Subdivisions Nos. 6, 7, and 8 of that section, known as Te Momi West; commencing at the junction of the Hutt Main Road with the northernmost boundary of Section No. 20. Bounded—Generally South-easterly by the main road 843 links, and by lines 175 and 172 links respectively; Southerly by a line, 228 links; North-westerly by the railway-line, 111, 6, 500, 6, and 434 links respectively; Northerly by Section No. 24, 341 links, to the commencing point.

Also all that piece or parcel of land containing by admeasurement 1 rood 33 perches, being part of Section No. 20, Hutt District (Block VIII., Belmont Survey District), comprising parts of Subdivisions Nos. 6, 7, and 8 of that section, known as Te Momi West; commencing at a point on the northernmost boundary of Section No. 20 distant 2584 links from the north-west corner thereof. Bounded—Northerly by Section No. 24, 51 links; South-easterly by the railway-line, 375, 6, 500, 6, and 170 links respectively; Southerly by a line, 59 links; and North-westerly by a line, 1047 links, to the commencing point: be all the above areas and linkages either more or less; the several parcels of land being situate in the Provincial District of Wellington, and are more particularly delineated upon the plan marked P.W.D. 11482, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington.

Vaccination Districts constituted.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in the Governor by “The Public Health Act, 1876,” I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby abolish the existing vaccination district known as the Feilding District; and do declare that the territory heretofore comprised within the said district is hereby divided anew into two vaccination districts, the names whereof shall be the Halcombe and Feilding Districts, and the boundaries whereof shall be coterminous with the boundaries of the marriage districts bearing the same names as are set forth in a Proclamation of even date herewith, made under the provisions of “The Marriage Act, 1880.”

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this seventeenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.
