  1. All telegrams shall be delivered without receipts being required from the persons to whom such telegrams are addressed or by whom the same are received respectively.

EXTENSION OF TELEGRAPH OFFICE HOURS.

All telegraph and telephone offices throughout the colony which do not open in the evening for public business shall hereafter reopen for the receipt and despatch of telegrams between the hours of 7 and 8 p.m. daily, except on Sundays and holidays, when the hours at present applicable to those days shall continue to be observed.

Notice of Intention to take Land for a Road in the Parish of Takapuna, Provincial District of Auckland.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road in the Parish of Takapuna, Provincial District of Auckland, and for the purposes of such public work the lands described in the Schedule hereto are required to be taken; and notice is further given that the plans of the said road, and of the lands so required to be taken, are deposited in the Post Office at Takapuna, and are there open for inspection: And notice is hereby given that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said lands shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such lands, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.


SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land containing by admeasurement 1 acre 3 roods 2 perches, situate in the Parish of Takapuna, in the Lake Road District, and being a portion of a road-line varying in width and lying within the south-western boundary of the north-western portion of Section No. 195; commencing at the north-western angle of the north-western portion of Section No. 195. Bounded—Generally North-easterly by lines, 485 and 615 links respectively; Southerly by lines, 56 and 447 links respectively; generally South-westerly by lines, 123, 356, and 135 links respectively; Westerly by a line, 498 links, to the commencing point.

All those parcels of land containing by admeasurement 3 roods 17 perches, and 1 acre 2 roods 16 perches, respectively, situate in the Parish of Takapuna, in the Lake Road District, and being portions of a road-line varying in width and traversing the eastern boundary of the eastern portion of Section No. 197:—

Portion containing 3 roods 17 perches: Commencing at a point on the northern boundary of the eastern portion of Section No. 197 distant 830 links from its northernmost angle. Bounded—Northerly by a line, 185 links; generally Easterly by lines, 475 and 230 links respectively; Westerly by a line, 754 links, to the commencing point.

Portion containing 1 acre 2 roods 16 perches: Commencing at a point on the eastern boundary of the eastern portion of Section No. 197 distant 658 links from its southernmost angle. Bounded—South-westerly by lines, 705 and 327 links respectively; North-westerly by a line, 279 links; North-easterly by a line, 1128 links; South-easterly by a line, 105 links, to the commencing point.

Be all the above areas and linkages either more or less; the above parcels of land being situate in the Provincial District of Auckland, and are more particularly delineated upon the plan marked P.W.D. 12098, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works, Wellington, in the Provincial District of Wellington.

Conditions for Trout-fishing in Nelson.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Salmon and Trout Act, 1867,” His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand doth hereby make the following regulations for the Provincial District of Nelson:—

  1. Any holder of a license as hereinafter mentioned may fish with rod and line for trout in each river or stream in the Provincial District of Nelson which flows into Blind Bay from the first day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, to the thirty-first day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five, both inclusive, but only between the hours of five o’clock in the morning and ten o’clock in the evening.

  2. Licenses to fish with rod and line in the said waters will be issued under the hand of the Secretary of the Nelson Acclimatisation Society, at Nelson, and for every license a fee of ten shillings will be charged.

  3. No license shall authorize any person other than the person named therein to fish, and that only with rod and line.

  4. Any person fishing without a license, or any person who shall, on demand of any person holding and showing a license, or on the demand of any ranger, police officer, or constable, fail to produce and show to such person, ranger, police officer, or constable his license, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds.

  5. All trout not exceeding seven inches in length taken by any person fishing as aforesaid shall be immediately returned alive into the water; and any person convicted of infringing this regulation shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds sterling, and his license shall thereupon become void.

  6. Except as aforesaid, no person shall fish or use any net or other engine, instrument, or device for taking fish in any lake, river, or stream within the above district; and all persons offending against this regulation shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds.

  7. Any person who puts, throws, or places, or allows to be put, thrown, or placed, into any lake, river, or stream in the said district, any dynamite or other explosive substance, or any matter or liquid deleterious to fish, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding one hundred pounds.

  8. These regulations shall come into force as from the date hereof.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-fifth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

Conditions for Trout Fishing in North Canterbury.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Salmon and Trout Act, 1867,” His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand doth hereby make the following regulations for that part of the Provincial District of Canterbury lying to the north of the Rangitata River:—

  1. These regulations shall come in force from the date of the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

  2. Licenses to fish for trout in all the rivers, streams, and lakes in the Provincial District of Canterbury north of the Rangitata River will be issued under the hand of the Secretary of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, at Christchurch, and for every such license a fee of twenty shillings will be charged: Provided that it shall not be obligatory upon the said Secretary to issue a license.

  3. Every such license shall entitle the person named therein to fish in any of the said rivers, streams, and lakes from the fifteenth day of October in any year until the fifteenth day of April in the year following inclusive, between the hours of five a.m. and ten p.m. only, but no such license shall confer any right of entry upon the land of any person without his consent; and any person fishing or attempting to fish or take any salmon or trout except during the above-mentioned period shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds.

  4. Every such license shall entitle the person named therein to fish with one rod and line, and with the bait or devices authorized by these regulations only; and any person who shall use any ground-bait, or any net (except a landing-net) or other engine, instrument, or device not expressly authorized by these regulations, or shall use or employ either of the methods known as “cross-line fishing” or “stroke-hauling,” or any other unsportsmanlike device, or shall use as bait salmon-roe, fish-roe, or any bait prepared with any chemical or medicated dressing whatever, for taking fish in any of the said rivers, streams, or lakes, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds; and every such net or other engine, instrument, or device used contrary to these regulations shall be forfeited.

  5. Any person fishing without a license, or any person who shall on the demand of any ranger, constable, or officer of the Acclimatisation Society, fail to produce and show to such ranger, officer, or constable his license, or the contents of his creel or bag, or the bait used by him for taking fish, or any person who shall on demand of a person holding and showing a license fail to produce and show to such person the license (if any) held by him, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds.

  6. No person shall use or fish with or place on any hook or other device used for taking trout any bait of any kind or
