Altering Boundaries of Resident Magistrates' Districts of Taranaki and Patea.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Resident Magistrates Act, 1867,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor from time to time, by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette, to constitute throughout the colony, or in any part thereof, districts to be called Resident Magistrates' districts, and such districts from time to time to abolish, and the boundaries to define and alter, and, in any such Proclamation, to fix a time on and from which any such district shall be constituted or abolished, as the case may be:

And whereas by a Proclamation bearing date the sixteenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three, His Excellency the Governor, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities so vested in him, did define the boundaries of the Resident Magistrates' Districts of Taranaki and Patea, as described in the said Proclamation respectively:

And whereas it is expedient to alter the boundaries of the said districts so defined as aforesaid:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities so vested in me as aforesaid, do hereby alter the boundaries of the said Districts of Taranaki and Patea respectively, as described in the Schedule hereto, as and from the first day of October next.

SCHEDULE.

TARANAKI.

Bounded towards the North-west and North by Kawhia County, from the mouth of the Mokau River to Mount Rangitoto; thence towards the East by a right line to the source of the Ongaruhe River, and thence by a line along the middle of the Ongaruhe, of the Ngahuina (or Tuhua), and of the Wanganui Rivers to the confluence of the last-mentioned river with the Tangarakau River; thence towards the South generally by a right line to the eastern corner of the Mangaotuku Block; thence by the southern boundary of that block to its south-west corner; thence by a right line to the eastern corner of the Ahuroa Block, and by the eastern boundary of the latter block to the Patea River; thence by a line along the middle of the Patea River to a point where it intersects the north-eastern boundary of the Town District of Stratford; thence by the north-eastern, south-eastern, and south-western boundaries of the said town district to the middle of the Patea River; thence again by the middle of that river to its source near Mount Egmont, by a right line thence to the summit of Mount Egmont; towards the East and South-east by a right line thence to the Oeo Road, and by a line along the middle of that road and the Main South Road to the sea; and towards the South-west and again towards the North-west by the ocean to the mouth of the Mokau River, the place of commencement.

PATEA.

Bounded towards the North-west and North generally by the Resident Magistrate’s District of Taranaki, hereinbefore described; towards the East and South-east by the County of Wanganui to the ocean; and thence towards the South-west by the ocean to the place of commencement.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this eighth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

Extending Jurisdiction of the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Taupo.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority in me vested in this behalf by “The Resident Magistrates Act, 1867,” I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the fifteenth day of September instant, the jurisdiction of the Resident Magistrate’s Court for the Taupo District, as the same is defined in a Proclamation bearing date the sixteenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three, shall be extended to fifty pounds.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this eighth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

Quarantine Station for Hokitika, Greymouth, and Westport.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Public Health Act, 1876,” it is among other things enacted that the Governor may, by any order notified by Proclamation in the Gazette, appoint certain stations within or near any harbour or place within New Zealand for the performance of quarantine under the Third Part of the said Act, where all vessels liable to quarantine, and the crews, passengers, and persons on board thereof, shall perform the same: And whereas it is expedient to appoint the place mentioned in the Schedule hereto as the station where vessels arriving at the Ports of Hokitika, Greymouth, or Westport, liable to quarantine, and the crews, passengers, and persons on board thereof, shall perform the same:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the power and authority vested in me for that purpose, do, by this Proclamation, order and appoint that the place named and described in the Schedule hereto shall be, and the same is hereby appointed to be, the station for the performance of quarantine, under the Third Part of the said Act, in the case of vessels liable to quarantine, and the crews, passengers, and persons on board thereof arriving at the Ports of Hokitika, Greymouth, or Westport.

SCHEDULE.

The whole of the island known as Somes Island, situated in the Port Nicholson Harbour, and the water frontage around the said island within half a mile from its shore.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this eighth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the lands described in the Schedule hereto are vested in certain aboriginal natives of New Zealand, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such lands, and applications have been made for the removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is the intention of His Excellency the Governor, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said lands.
