THE following by-law, made by the Takaka Road Board, is published in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”
THOMAS DICK.
By-LAW passed by Special Order of Takaka Road Board, on the 15th Day of December, 1883.
THE owner of any horse, ass, sheep, swine, or any other beast or cattle of any kind which shall, at any time after this by-law shall come into operation, be found depasturing in or upon any fenced or formed road, or the sides or any ditch or bank thereof, within the limits of the Takaka Road Board District, whether under the tendance or control of any person or not, shall be liable to a fine for each or any animal so depasturing of not more than 10s.: Provided always that the amount of such penalty shall not exceed £2, to be recovered in a summary manner.
I hereby certify that the by-law made by the Takaka Road Board on the 15th December, 1883, for the purpose of inflicting fines upon owners of cattle straying on the public roads in the Takaka District, was made by special order duly passed as required by sections 75 and 76 of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

THE following special order, made by the Rangitikei County Council, under “The Roads and Bridges Construction Act, 1882,” is published for general information.

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Rangitikei County Council, defining Portion of the District under Section 40 of “The Roads and Bridges Construction Act, 1882.”
THE following special order was passed at a meeting of the Rangitikei County Council held at the Council Chambers, High Street, Marton, on Saturday, the 5th day of January, 1884:—
That it appears to the Council that the river work proposed to be undertaken (at an estimated cost of £300) by the construction of two groins for the protection of the main road running along the river-bank between Bull’s and Scott’s Ferry, and for which the Minister has made a grant-in-aid of £300 under “The Roads and Bridges Construction Act, 1882,” is for the special benefit of a particular portion of the district over which the Council has jurisdiction. The Council, by this special resolution, and pursuant to section 40 of the said Act, defines such portion of the district to be the parts of the County of Rangitikei lying within the Rangitoto Riding or Subdivision No. 1, bounded as follows: Towards the North and North-east by lines so as to include Blocks Nos. 117, 118, 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, and 127, and Sections Nos. 44, 43, 38, and 36, all of Rangitoto Survey District, Blocks Nos. 268, 269, and 271, and Section No. 36A, Rangitoto District aforesaid; thence towards the South-east by a line along the middle of the Rangitikei River to its mouth; thence towards the South-west by the shore of Cook Strait; and thence towards the North-west by a line, being a production of the north-western boundary-line of Block No. 167, Koitiata Survey District; and thence by a line so as to include said Block No. 167 and Blocks No. 165, Koitiata Survey District aforesaid, and 117 aforesaid, to the place of commencement.
