two hundred and twenty-ninth sections of "The Public
Works Act, 1882," and of every other power and authority in
anywise enabling him in that behalf, doth hereby proclaim
and declare that the said land so described in the Schedule
hereto is taken for the said further portion of the said rail-
way from Hurunui to Waitaki.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that piece or parcel of land, containing by admeasure-
ment 1 acre 1 rood 22 perches, being portion of Rural Sec-
tion No. 298, commencing at a point on the road forming
the south-western boundary of said Rural Section No. 298,
distant 2393 links from the south-western corner thereof,
and bounded as follows: South-westerly by the above-men-
tioned road, 111 links; South-easterly by a line, 1262 links;
North-easterly, by Section No. 373, 111 links; North-westerly
by a road, 1262 links, to commencing point.
Also, all that piece or parcel of land, containing by ad-
measurement 18 perches, being portion of Rural Section
No. 373, commencing at a point on the south-western boun-
dary of said Rural Section No. 373 distant 2557 links
from the south-western corner thereof, and bounded as fol-
lows: South-westerly by Section No. 298, 111 links; South-
easterly by a line, 101 links; North-easterly by a line, 111
links; North-westerly by a road, 101 links, to the commencing
point.
The aforesaid two pieces of land being situate in the Survey
District of Christchurch, Provincial District of Canterbury,
more particularly set forth and delineated on a plan marked
P.W.D. 10590, signed by the Honourable Walter Woods
Johnston, Minister for Public Works, and deposited in the
office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington, in the
Provincial District of Wellington.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William
Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General
in Her Majesty's Army, Knight Grand Cross of
the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael
and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honour-
able Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral
of the same; and issued under the Seal of the
said Colony, at the Government House, at Wel-
lington, this sixth day of August, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
three.

A PROCLAMATION.
BY virtue and in exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in him by the fiftieth section of "The Land Act
1877 Amendment Act, 1882," and of every other power and
authority enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby declare that the blocks and sections of
land enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be subject to
the provisions of sections three to forty-eight of "The Land
Act 1877 Amendment Act, 1882."

Setting apart Land in Otago for Agricultural Leases.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the fifty-fourth section of "The Mines
Act, 1877," it is, amongst other things, enacted that
it shall be lawful for the Governor to cause Crown lands
situate within a gold field to be selected and set apart for the
purpose of granting agricultural leases thereon and therefor,
or for alienation by occupation licenses on deferred payments
under any law for the time being in force in the land dis-
trict in which such mining district is situate:
And whereas the lands described in the Schedule hereto
are Crown lands subject to be dealt with under the provisions
of the said Act, and it is deemed expedient to set the same
apart for the purpose of granting agricultural leases thereon
and therefor:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby select
and set apart, for the purpose of granting agricultural leases
thereon and therefor, the lands described in the Schedule
hereto; and do fix the thirteenth day of September next
ensuing, at the Warden's Office at Naseby, as the day and
place on which the said land shall be open for application in
allotments as surveyed and marked on the selection maps in
that office.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the fifty-third section of "The Land Act,
1877," it is enacted that the Governor, by Proclama-
tion in the Gazette, may from time to time set apart out of
any suburban or rural lands such blocks or allotments of land
as he shall think fit, and set the same aside for sale on de-
ferred payments, and in such Proclamation may fix a day on
which the land shall be open for application; and that he
may also in like manner set apart for sale on deferred pay-
ments suck blocks or allotments as may be recommended by
any Land Board, and may also from time to time alter, amend,
or revoke any such Proclamation:
And whereas the land specified in the Schedule hereto was,
with other lands, by Proclamation dated the twenty-fourth
day of September, one thousand eight hundred and eighty,
proclaimed as set apart for sale on deferred payments:
And whereas the Land Board of Otago did, on the eighteenth
day of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three,
