The circumference of the outer and larger circle is more
heavily printed than the inner and smaller is.
The facsimile of this trade mark, which appears on the
labels of the tins of various sizes containing said Pacific
rubber paint, is printed in colours, a reddish tint predomi-
nating between the circumference of the said circle, and a
tint of neutral white approaching the faintest pea-green is the
tint of the inner circle, while the trunk of said indiarubber
tree and said natives appears quite dark, the white breech-
cloths of the natives showing very plainly.
Sometimes the words "Trade Mark" may appear over the
top branches of the tree, instead of in the foreground below
its trunk.
Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade
Mark shall apply.

Bonuses on Colonial Industries.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following bonuses will
be paid on articles produced in the Colony of New
Zealand, as under:---
SILK.
A bonus of fifty per cent. on the value realized for the first
thousand pounds' (£1,000) worth of cocoons of the silkworm,
or silkworms' eggs, produced in the colony, to be paid on
quantities of not less value than fifty pounds (£50) nor more
than one hundred pounds (£100) produced by any one person.
MANGANEISEN AND MANGANESE-BRONZE.
A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for
the first two thousand five hundred pounds' (£2,500) worth of
manganeisen, and a similar bonus for a like amount of man-
ganese-bronze, produced in the colony from New Zealand
ores, and sold at a fair market price in a foreign market.
MARBLE.
A bonus of three hundred pounds (£300) will be given for
the first fifteen hundred pounds (£1,500) worth of New
Zealand marble exported from the colony, and sold in a
foreign market at a price of not less than 9s. per cubic foot.
ANTIMONY.
A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for
the first 250 tons of antimony regulus produced in the
colony from New Zealand ores, and sold at a fair market
price in a foreign market.
Conditions.
- Notice of intention to claim any of the above bonuses
must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later
than the 31st December, 1883. - The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1884.
- The first claimant of any bonus who proves to the satis-
faction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the con-
ditions to be the recipient of the bonus. - The other conditions as to quantity, priority, quality,
and value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer
appointed for the purpose by the Government.

application at the Colonial Secretary's Office.
WROUGHT-IRON.
A bonus of one thousand pounds (£1,000) will be given for
the production in New Zealand, by a direct process, of 200
tons of "iron blooms," of marketable quality, from ore pro-
duced in New Zealand.
Conditions.
- The bonus not to be given for any quantity less than
100 tons. - Notice of the intention to erect ironworks and claim the
bonus must be given to the Colonial Secretary before the 31st
December, 1883. - The bonus must be claimed before the 31st December,
- In the event of more than one claimant giving such
notice, not more than seven-tenths of the bonus may be
claimed by the first producer, and not more than three-tenths
by the second producer; but, if only one claimant becomes a
producer on the above conditions, he may claim the whole of
the bonus. - The iron in respect of which any bonus is claimed, and
the ore from which it is manufactured, will be examined by
an officer to be appointed by the Government, who may
require the production of bonâ fide account-sales of quan-
tities not less than 100 tons weight, showing that such iron
has been sold at a fair market price as wrought-iron.

NAPIER SECTION.
Class K.—Timber.
WITH reference to the notice in New Zealand Gazette
of 13th July, fixing a rate for carriage of white pine
timber on Napier Section, the words "to Napier," in first
line thereof, should read " to Spit."

MIDDLE CHANNEL, MORETON BAY.
NOTICE is hereby given that, with the leading lights in line,
there is at low water a depth of only 14 feet over the Venus
Bank Spit.
Vessels are therefore cautioned to round the Venus Bank
with the lights open to the Northwards, a space equal to one-
third of the difference between their height.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.—SPENCER GULF.—APPROACHES TO PORT
AUGUSTA.
THE Marine Board hereby give notice that a channel, one
mile in length, having a width of 150 feet and a depth of
18 feet low water ordinary springs, has been cut through the
reach leading from Brown's Point towards Port Augusta.
About two cables' length of the southern portion of the
reach has been widened to 300 feet.
Masters of vessels bound for Port Augusta should leave the
red beacons on the starboard hand at a distance of from
75 feet to 100 feet.
Small cask buoys, painted black, will mark the port side of
the channel.

Special Rules under "The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874."

THE under-mentioned special rules, to be observed at the
ELEPHANT HILL COAL MINE, Timaru District, are
published in accordance with the provisions of section 31 of
"The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874."

The penalties for the violation of any special rules
established under "The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874,"
and for offences against the Act, are provided for in sections
22 to 28, in Part VI.
SPECIAL RULES.
- No officer in a place of trust shall depute another
person to do his work without the sanction of his superior;
and no person in a place of trust shall absent himself without
having previously obtained the permission of his superior
officer for his term of absence. - Intoxicating drinks shall not be allowed in or about the
mine without the consent of the manager, and then only in
cases of necessity; and no person in a state of intoxication
shall be allowed to be in or about the mine. No person shall
be allowed in the mine without the consent of the manager.
MANAGER.
3. The Manager shall take all reasonable means for carry-
ing out the requirements of the Act and special rules, by
publishing and, to the best of his power, enforcing them.
He shall be responsible for the appointment of a sufficient
number of competent persons to carry out the requirements
of the Act and the special rules; and also to see that the
working of the mine is carried on with all reasonable pro-
visions for the safety of the persons employed.
4. The Manager shall see that an adequate amount of
ventilation is constantly produced in the mine, to dilute and
