Native School Site at Kirikiri.

Education Department,
Wellington, 17th January, 1883

THE following report of the person appointed by the Admin-
istrator of the Government, under under the provisions of "The
Native Schools Sites Act, 1880," to ascertain the title of certain
Natives to land at Kirikiri, in the Thames District, appropriated
by them for the site of a school, having been adopted by the
Administrator of the Government, is published in accordance
with the said Act.

THOMAS DICK.

REPORT UNDER "THE NATIVE SCHOOLS SITES ACT, 1880."

His Excellency the Administrator of the Government having
been pleased, in pursuance of the above-recited Act, to appoint
me to ascertain the title of certain Natives to land known as
Mataiwhetu, at Te Kirikiri, Thames District, proposed to be
appropriated by them as a school site for that district, I beg
leave respectfully to report:

  1. I caused notice both in the English and Maori languages
to be inserted in the Thames Advertiser that I would hold an
inquiry at the Native Office, Grey Street, Shortland, on Wednes-
day, the 3rd day of January, 1883. I also had circulars to the
same effect printed in English and Maori, which I caused to be
circulated amongst the Natives of the Thames District.

  2. On Wednesday, the said 3rd day of January, I held an
inquiry at the place before mentioned, at which representatives
from the Ngatimaru, Ngatihauauru, Ngatiteaute, and Ngati-
whanaunga tribes were present. The plan of the land proposed
to be given for a school site was produced, and the provisions of
the Act were explained by me.

  3. The Natives unanimously agreed that the land shown on
the plan produced as aforesaid was a portion of the Mataiwhetu
Block, and that such portion belonged to Wirope Hotereni
Taipari, Hoani Nahe, and Hori Matene; and the said Wirope
Hotereni Taipari, Hoani Nahe, and Hori Matene thereupon
declared their consent to the appropriation of such land as a
school site for the Kirikiri or Mataiwhetu Native School in and
for the district before mentioned, in accordance with the above-
    recited Act.

Description of Land above referred to.

All that piece or parcel of land containing by admeasurement
4 acres 1 rood, more or less, being called or known as the Matai-
whetu Block, situated in Block VIII., Thames Survey District,
in the Provincial District of Auckland. Bounded towards the
North-west by a line, 856-3 links; towards the North-east by a
line, 566.3 links; towards the South-east by a line, 874-6 links;
and towards the South-west by a line, 432-9 links, to the point
of commencement: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.

Given under my hand at Auckland, this 8th day of
January, 1883.

GEORGE T. WILKINSON.
