The following remarks apply only to the above four principal boroughs:—
The births were 229 in December, against 258 in November, a decrease of 29.
The deaths in December were 114, against 87 in November, an increase of 27.
There were 9 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: two males aged 67 and 73 died at Auckland; a male of 78 and
a female of 68 at Wellington; a female of 69 at Christchurch; two males of 67 and 72, and two females of 67 and 76, at
Dunedin.
Zymotic Diseases.—The deaths from these diseases in December were more numerous than in November, the numbers
having been 20 and 15 respectively. The increase is due to the larger number of deaths from diarrhea—3 in November, 9 in
December. The deaths from zymotic diseases were fewer than in December, 1881, when the number was 24.
