Boundaries of Road Districts in Middle Island defined
under "The Road Boards Act, 1882."

IN pursuance of the provisions of subsection 9 of section 3 of
"The Road Boards Act, 1882," I hereby define the
boundaries of all road districts in existence in the Middle Island
of New Zealand on the coming into operation of the said Act,
and of the subdivisions of such road districts at the date hereof,
as follows.

THOMAS DICK.

MIDDLE ISLAND.
MARLBOROUGH COUNTY.

Awatere Road District.

All that area in the Provincial District of Marlborough,
bounded towards the North-east by the ocean, from Cape Camp-
bell to the mouth of the Awatere River; thence towards the
North and North-west by the Awatere River aforesaid to a point
in line with the south-western boundary-line of Section No. 30,
Clifford Bay Survey District; thence again towards the North-
east by a right line across the Awatere River aforesaid to
and thence by Section No. 30 aforesaid; thence again towards
the North-west by a road fronting Section No. 31, aforesaid
survey district; thence again towards the North-east generally
by a road, and Sections Nos. 29, 28, and 4 of Block I., 6 of
Block II., 15 of Block II., and 14 of Block II., Clifford Bay
Survey District aforesaid; thence again towards the North-west
by Section No. 14 of Block II. aforesaid, and Section No. 27
to the Maxwell Pass Stream; thence again towards the North-
east by that stream to the watershed; thence to and by a
tributary of the Taylor River to the Taylor River, at the base
of the hill called the Maori; thence again towards the North-
west generally by the western side of the Taylor Pass Road to
the confluence of the Taylor Pass Creek with the Taylor River
aforesaid, and by that river to a place near to the south-western
boundary-line of Section No. 44 of Block I., Taylor Pass Survey
District; thence by a line to the saddle and by the summit of the
dividing range between the Wairau and the Awatere Valleys
to Barefell Pass; thence by the Guide River and the Acheron
River to the confluence of the latter with the Clarence River;
thence towards the South-east by the boundary-line between
the Provincial Districts of Marlborough and Nelson to the
Clarence River aforesaid; thence again towards the South-east
and towards the South-west by that river to the ocean; and
thence again towards the South-east by the ocean to Cape
Campbell aforesaid, the place of commencement.

Flaxbourne Subdivision.

Bounded towards the West, South-west, and South-east by
the Clarence River, from its mouth to its confluence with
Elliott River; thence towards the West and North-west by
Elliott River aforesaid and the summit of the eastern water-
shed of the Awatere Valley to Blue Mountain; thence by the
south-western boundary-line of Richmond Brook Run, as leased
by the Crown, to the south-western corner of Section No. 74,
Richmond Brook Run, Blue Mountain Survey District; thence
down a tributary and up another tributary of the Medway
River to the saddle between Monument Hill and Mount
Peggie; thence by the Flaxbourne River and a tributary of
that river to the saddle at the head of Upton Brook; thence
by the summit of the dividing range to the Blind River, and
by that river to the ocean; and thence towards the North-east
and South-east by the ocean to the mouth of the Clarence
River, the place of commencement.

Lower Awatere Subdivision.

Bounded towards the South-east by the Flaxbourne Sub-
division, hereinbefore described, from the source of the Hodder
River to the mouth of the Blind River; thence towards the
East by the ocean to the mouth of the Awatere River; thence
towards the North and North-west by the Omaka and the Wairau
Road Districts respectively, hereinafter described, to the head
of Penk River; and thence towards the South-west gene-
rally by that river, the Awatere River, and the Hodder River
to its source, the place of commencement.

Upper Awatere Subdivision.

Bounded towards the South by the boundary-line between
the Provincial Districts of Marlborough and Nelson; thence
towards the South-east by the Clarence River to the Elliott
River; thence again towards the South-east and towards the
North-east by the Flaxbourne and the Lower Awatere Sub-
divisions respectively, hereinbefore described; and thence
towards the North and North-west by the Wairau Road Dis-
trict, hereinafter described, to Barefell Pass; thence by the
Guide River to its confluence with the Acheron River, and by
the Acheron River aforesaid to the place of commencement.
