Land set apart for Pukeroa Recreation Reserve.

WHEREAS by the sixth section of "The Thermal-Springs
Districts Act, 1881," it is enacted, among other things,
that the Governor may, with the consent of the Native pro-
prietors, to be ascertained in such manner as he may think fit,
from time to time set apart and dedicate any of the land within
a district for a park or domain or for any specific purpose of
public amusement or recreation: And whereas the consent of
the Native proprietors within the Pukeroa-o-Ruawhata District
(which said district has been proclaimed and defined under the
said Act) has been given to the setting-apart and dedication of
the block of land hereinafter mentioned as a park or domain
for public use and recreation: And whereas it is expedient
that effect should be given to the said Act in the manner here-
inafter set forth:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and
exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said
Act, do hereby set apart and dedicate all that parcel of land in
the Town of Rotorua, known as the Pukeroa Recreation Reserve,
bounded towards the North by the Tauranga-Rotorua Road,
towards the East by Rangiuru Street, towards the South and
again towards the East by the Medical Residence Reserve, again
towards the South by the Grammar School Reserve, and towards
the West by Ranolf Street, as delineated on the plan of the
said town, in the Survey Office, Auckland, as a park or domain
for the public use and enjoyment of the inhabitants of the said
town.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this second day of April, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-three.

Board appointed to administer the Affairs of the Township
of Rotorua.

IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by the tenth section
of "The Thermal-Springs Districts Act, 1881," I, William
Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, do hereby appoint

HERBERT WILLIAM BRABANT, Esq., R.M.,
THOMAS HOPE LEWIS, Esq., L.S.A.L., M.R.C.S.E., and
ROTOHIKO HAUPAPA

to be a Board to administer the affairs of the Township of
Rotorua, established under the said Act: and by the like
authority I do hereby delegate to the said Board all the powers
conferred upon or vested in me by virtue of subsections six and
seven of section six of the said Act.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this twenty-eighth day of March, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-three.

Thomas Hope Lewis, Esq., appointed to receive License-
Fees for Springs or Baths.

IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by the eighth section
of "The Thermal-Springs Districts Act, 1881," I, William
Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, do hereby authorize

THOMAS HOPE LEWIS, Esquire, L.S.A.L., M.R.C.S.E.,

to be the person to receive the license-fees for springs or baths
and all other revenue arising in the district described in the
Proclamation dated the twelfth day of October, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-one, and in the Township of Rotorua,
as respectively proclaimed and established under the said Act.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this second day of April, one thousand eight hun-
dred and eighty-three.

Defining the Purpose of Reserves.

WHEREAS by clause five of the "Public Reserves Act,
1881," it is enacted that if there shall, in the opinion of the
Governor, be any doubt or uncertainty as to the purpose for
which such reserve was set apart, the Governor may, by notice
gazetted, define such purpose or purposes as to either the whole
or any part of such reserve:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby define the
purpose of the lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto to be
for lighthouse purposes.

SCHEDULE.

ALL those islands in the Hauraki Gulf called or known by the
names of the Pokohinu, Hen and Chickens, Poor Knights,
and Fanal Islands.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this nineteenth day of March, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-three.

Appointing Commissioners to inquire into the best Line of
Railway for the Connection of the Provincial District of
Canterbury with the West Coast of the Middle Island.

COMMISSION.

VICTORIA, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, to
our trusty and loving subjects Captain William Russell
Russell, of Hastings, in the Colony of New Zealand; James
Glenny Wilson, of Bull's, in the said colony, Esquire, M.H.R.;
Charles Napier Bell, of Christchurch, in the said colony,
Esquire, M.I.C.E.

WHEREAS the Governor of our said colony hath, by and
with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
thereof, deemed it expedient that a Commission should forth-
with be issued for the purposes and in the manner hereinafter
set forth: Now, therefore, know ye that we, reposing great
trust and confidence in your zeal, knowledge, and ability, do by
these presents constitute and appoint you, the said

Captain WILLIAM RUSSELL RUSSELL,
JAMES GLENNY WILSON, and
CHARLES NAPIER BELL

to be our Commissioners for the purpose of making enquiry into
the probable cost and economical or commercial value and other
merits of the several lines specified in the Schedule to this Com-
mission, or any other lines proposed for the connection of the
Provincial District of Canterbury with the West Coast of the
Middle Island, and also for the purpose of making enquiry into
the mineral and other resources of the districts or lands which
the several lines would traverse; it being the intention of these
presents that you shall make enquiry in the most ample manner
into all the facts and circumstances necessary and proper to be
considered in determining the best line to connect Canterbury
with the West Coast.

And, for the better enabling you to carry these presents into
effect, we do authorize and empower you, or any two of you, to
make and conduct any enquiry under these presents at such
place or places in the said colony as you may deem expedient,
and to call before you such persons or person as you may judge
necessary by whom you may be better informed of the matters
herein submitted for your consideration, and also to call for and
examine all such books, documents, papers, maps, plans, accounts,
or records as you shall judge likely to afford you the fullest in-
formation on the subject of this our Commission, and to enquire
of and concerning the premises by all other lawful ways and
means whatsoever. And our further will and pleasure is that you,
or any two of you, do report to us, under your hands and seals
(with as little delay as may be consistent with a due discharge of
the duties hereby imposed upon you), your opinion on the several
matters herein submitted for your consideration, with power to
certify unto us from time to time your several proceedings in
respect of any of the matters aforesaid, if it may seem expedient
for you so to do. And we do further declare that this our
Commission shall continue in full force and virtue, and that
you, our said Commissioners, or any two of you, shall and may
from time to time proceed in the execution thereof and of every
matter and thing therein contained, although the same be not
continued from time to time by adjournment. In testimony
whereof we have caused these our letters to be made patent, and
the seal of the said colony to be hereunto affixed.

Witness our trusty and well-beloved Sir William Francis
Drummond Jervois, Governor in and over Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Depen-
dencies; and issued under the Seal of the said
Colony, at Wellington, this second day of April, in
the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-three.
