Regulations under "The Inspection of Machinery Act,
1882."

Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in me by
"The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1882," and of all
other powers enabling me in this behalf, I, William Francis
Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, do hereby direct that from and after the first day
of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, all
portable boilers used solely in connection with threshing
machinery and all boilers used solely for boiling-down
purposes shall only be inspected once in every two years:
Provided that to entitle such boilers to exemption from
annual inspection they shall not be used for any purpose for
any period exceeding six calendar months in any one year,
and nothing herein shall restrict the inspection of any such
boiler at any time if the Inspector shall see fit to do so for
any alleged sufficient cause: Provided further that this
provision shall not restrict or prohibit inspection if the
certificate granted in respect of any boiler of such class shall
be for a less period than two years.

Borough of South Dunedin,

SIR, -In compliance with section 145 of "The Municipal
Corporations Act, 1876," I have the honour to forward notice
that a poll was taken on Tuesday, the 4th day of December
instant, for and against the proposal of the South Dunedin
Council to borrow the sum of £10,000 for the purpose of
drainage and works; when the following number of votes was
recorded:-

For the proposal .. .. 394 votes.
Against the proposal .. 11 "
Informal .. .. .. 1 "

As the number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal
exceeds one-half of the number of burgesses (viz., 686), I have
declared the proposal carried.

Bonuses on Colonial Industries.

Wellington, 2nd February, 1883.
NOTICE is hereby given that the following bonuses will
be paid on articles produced in the Colony of New
Zealand, as under:-

SILK.
A bonus of fifty per cent. on the value realized for the first
thousand pounds' (£1,000) worth of cocoons of the silkworm,
or silkworms' eggs, produced in the colony, to be paid on
quantities of not less value than fifty pounds (£50) nor more
than one hundred pounds (£100) produced by any one person.

MANGANEISEN AND MANGANESE-BRONZE.
A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for
the first two thousand five hundred pounds' (£2,500) worth of
manganeisen, and a similar bonus for a like amount of man-
ganese-bronze, produced in the colony from New Zealand
ores, and sold at a fair market price in a foreign market.
