A PROCLAMATION.
W HEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto is
required to be taken under "The Public Works Act,
1876," and "The Public Works Act 1876 Amendment Act,
1878," for a certain work, to wit, the construction of a road
in the Pigeon Bay Road District, Provincial District of
Canterbury:
And whereas the Pigeon Bay Road Board has laid before
the Governor the memorial and map mentioned in and signed
and certified as required by the said Acts:
And whereas the two hundred and twenty-ninth section of
"The Public Works Act, 1882," enacts that any public work
authorized under the authority of any Act repealed by this
Act or of any Act or Ordinance repealed by "The Public
Works Act, 1876," and any land required to be taken, pur-
chased, or acquired for such work, or anything commenced
under any such authority as aforesaid, may be continued,
taken, purchased or acquired, executed, carried out, enforced,
and completed under the provisions of this Act:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pur-
suance of the powers and authorities in mê vested by sections
eleven and two hundred and twenty-nine of "The Public
Works Act, 1882," and of every other power and authority in
anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and
declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto is
hereby taken for the purposes of a road; and that, from and
after the day of the date hereof, the land so described shall
become absolutely vested in fee-simple in the inhabitants of
the Pigeon Bay Road District, discharged from all mort-
gages, charges, claims, estates, or interests of what kind
soever, for use as a road.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that parcel of land forming portions of Rural Sections
Nos. 4901, 167, 169, and 1704, situated at Holmes Bay, con-
taining 10 acres and 21\u00be perches, more or less, being a strip
1 chain wide, forming a roadway, the centre whereof is
defined by lines of the following bearings and distances:
Commencing at a point on the northern boundary of Rural
Section No. 4901 581 links distant from the south-west
corner peg of that section, 115° 13' 51\u00b78 links, 123° 24' 378\u00b73

Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General
in Her Majesty's Army, Knight Grand Cross of the
Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable
Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral
of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said
Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington,
this fourth day of December, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
three.

drain in the Springs Road District, Provincial District of
Canterbury:
And whereas the Springs Road Board has laid before the
Governor the memorial and map mentioned in, and signed
and certified as required by, the said Act:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pur-
suance of the powers and authorities in me vested by section
eleven of "The Public Works Act, 1882," and of every other
