The following remarks apply only to the above four principal boroughs:—
The births were 331 in October, against 256 in September, an increase of 75. The deaths in October were 121,
against 108 in September, an increase of 13.
There were 12 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: three males of 75, 74, and 73, and a female of 85, died at
Auckland; two males of 69 and 68, and three females of 76, 74, and 71, at Wellington; a male of 81 at Christchurch; and
two females of 73 and 69 at Dunedin.
Zymotic Diseases. The deaths in the four boroughs from these causes increased from 21 in September to 32 in
October, the mortality having been still largely attributable to the number of deaths from whooping cough. In September
15 of the 21 deaths in this class were from that cause, and in October 18 of the 32 deaths, the largest number in each
