(hercin referred to as "the Board"), subject to the stipula-
tions hereinafter contained; that is to say, -
-
The Board shall meet for the transaction of business on
the first Monday in each month, at eight o'clock p.m., at the
Schoolroom, West Melton, or at such other time or place as
may from time to time be fixed by the Board. The first
meeting shall be held on Monday, the fifth day of November,
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three. -
Special meetings may be convened by the Chairman or
by any two members of the Board, provided that two days'
notice of such meeting be given to each member, specifying
the business to be transacted at such special meeting, and
no other business than that so specified shall be transacted
at such mecting. -
Any three of the said Board shall form a quorum. Any
meeting may be adjourned from time to time. -
The members of the Board shall, at their first meeting,
and thereafter at an annual meeting to be held on the first
Monday in December in every succeeding year thereafter,
elect one of themselves to be Chairman, who may join in the
discussion, and shall have an original as well as a casting
vote. The Chairman shall hold office until the election of
his successor. -
If at any meeting the Chairman is not present at the
time appointed for holding the same, the members present
shall choose some one of their number to be Chairman of
such meeting. -
If, by resignation, death, or incapacity, or otherwise,
the office of Chairman shall be or become vacant, the mem-
bers may at any monthly or special meeting appoint a
Chairman, -
All questions shall be determined by the majority of
votes of the members of the Board present at a meeting.

Provincial District of Canterbury, being Section No. 1564
(in red), and containing 20 acres, more or less. Bounded
Northward by the road forming the southern boundary of
Section No. 6379; Eastward by Section No. 6326; South
ward by Bealey's Road; and Westward by Section No. 14102.
Dues and Rates to be charged for Use of the Kaikoura Appointing Days on which Property-Tax shall be payable.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this thirty-first
day of October, 1883.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

HEREAS it is provided by section four of "The
Harbours Act Amendment Act, 1879," that the
power granted to the Governor in Council by the seventeenth
section of "The Harbours Act, 1878," in respect of prescribing
what dues and rates may be charged on wharves vested in
local bodies may be exercised from time to time as occasion
may require, and shall not be limited as in the said section
is provided: And whereas the management of the Kaikoura
Wharf and Goods-shed was, by Order in Council dated the
second day of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
three, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the fifth
day of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three,
page nine hundred and eight, vested in the Kaikoura County
Council: And whereas it is expedient to prescribe dues and
rates to be charged for the use of the said wharf and goods-
shed:

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

HEREAS by the second section of "The Property-Tax
Act, 1883," it is, among other things, enacted that
the duties therein mentioned shall be paid on such day or
days as the Governor in Council may direct:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and
authority vested in him by the said Act, and by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby direct that the first day of December,
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three, shall be the
day on which the duty of three farthings for every twenty
shillings of the value of all property shall be paid; and that
the twenty-fifth day of April, one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-four, shall be the day on which the duty of
twenty-two shillings and sixpence for or in respect of all fire,
marine, or guarantee policies issued by any insurance com-
pany, as mentioned in the said Act, shall be paid.

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said colony, and in pursuance and
exercise of the power and authority granted to him by section
seventeen of "The Harbours Act, 1878," section four of
"The Harbours Act Amendment Act, 1879," and of all other
powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, doth
hereby prescribe that the dues and rates specified in the
Schedule hereto shall be charged and taken, on and after the
date of this Order in Council, for the use of the Kaikoura
Wharf and Goods-shed aforesaid, and such dues and rates shall
be applied to keeping the above-mentioned wharf and goods-
shed, and all erections on the wharf, in good order and repair, to be Registrar under "The Sale of Poisons Act, 1871," for
as provided in the said Order in Council of the second day of the Provincial District of Auckland.
