Prison at Lawrence proclaimed.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New
Zealand intituled "The Prisons Act, 1882," it is
provided that the Governor may, by Proclamation published
in the Gazette, declare any house, building, enclosure, or
place to be a prison, and, from and after the gazetting of any
such Proclamation, or from any later time specified in the
Proclamation, such house, building, enclosure, or place shall
be deemed a prison: And whereas it is desirable to proclaim
the Police Gaol at Lawrence to be a prison:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of
the above-recited power and authority, do hereby declare
that the house and buildings at Lawrence, in the Provincial
District of Otago, now constituted as a Police Gaol under
the said Act, and all enclosures used or occupied therewith,
shall, from and after the publication of this Proclamation
in the Gazette, be a prison within the meaning and for the
purposes of "The Prisons Act, 1882."
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William
Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General
in Her Majesty's Army, Knight Grand Cross of the
Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable
Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral
of the same; and issued under the Seal of the
said Colony, at Nelson, this twenty-fourth day of
October, in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-three.

Altering Boundaries of Resident Magistrates' Districts of
Hauraki and Waikato.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Resident Magistrates Act, 1867,"
it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor
from time to time, by Proclamation in the New Zealand
Gazette, to constitute throughout the colony, or in any part
thereof, districts to be called Resident Magistrates' districts,
and such districts from time to time to abolish, and the
boundaries to define and alter, and, in any such Proclama-
tion, to fix a time on and from which any such district shall
be constituted or abolished, as the case may be :
And whereas by Proclamations bearing date the seventh
day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one,
and the twenty-fifth day of March, one thousand eight hun-
dred and eighty-two, His Excellency the Governor, in pursu-
ance and exercise of the powers and authorities so vested in
him, did define the boundaries of the Resident Magistrates'
Districts of Hauraki and Waikato, as described in the said
Proclamations respectively:
And whereas it is expedient to alter the boundaries of the
said districts so defined as aforesaid :
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance
and exercise of the powers and authorities so vested in me as
aforesaid, do hereby alter the boundaries of the said Districts
of Hauraki and Waikato respectively, and define them as
described in the Schedule hereto, as and from the first day of
December proximo.
SCHEDULE.
HAURAKI DISTRICT.
BOUNDED towards the East, West, and North by the Frith of
the Thames and the sea from Orere Point to Cape Colville;
towards the North-east and again towards the East by the
sea from Cape Colville aforesaid to Ngakuriawhare; thence
towards the South-east generally by a right line in the
direction of the summit of Te Aroha Mountain to its inter-
section by another right line, being the production in a
northerly direction of the western boundary of Section No. 15,
Block IV., Katikati Survey District; thence by that line to
the south-western corner of Section No. 15 aforesaid; thence
by a right line to the north-western corner of Section No. 16,
Block IV.; thence by Section No. 16 aforesaid, and by Sections
Nos. 65 and 53A of Block VIII., Katikati Survey District,
and by a right line to the north-western corner of Section
No. 63, Block VIII.; thence by Sections Nos. 63, 62, and 70
of Block VIII., Katikati Survey District, to the south-western
angle of the last-mentioned section; thence by a right line
due west to the confiscation boundary-line, and by that line
in a southerly direction to the north-eastern angle of the
Waiharakeke East Block, No. 2723; thence towards the
South generally by a right line to the south-eastern angle
of Section No. 9, Block VII., Wairere Survey District, and by
the south-eastern boundary-lines of Sections Nos. 9, 10, and
15 of said Block VII., and Section No. 13, Block VI., Wairere
Survey District; thence by a right line to the south-eastern
angle of Section No. 1, Block VIII., Maungakawa Survey
District, and by the south-eastern boundary of that section
to the Waitoa River, and by that river, the Te-pae-o-tu-
Rawaru Stream, the south-western boundary-line of the
