SCHEDULE A.
TELEPHONE EXCHANGES.

For hire of each set of instruments and wire
from office or private residence for any dis-
tance within half a mile of the telegraph
office, for the first year, commencing on the
1st day of January, April, July, or October
after the date of connection

SCHEDULE B.
BUREAU STATIONS.

Throughout these regulations "bureau station" means any
ordinary telegraph station connected by telephone with an
exchange; "exchange" means any telegraph office to which
a number of private telephone wires are led in for the purpose
of intercommunication amongst the subscribers.

The following shall be the charges to be paid by the public
for the use of Government telephones wherever established
in the colony at a bureau station in connection with an ex-
change :-

Where the line used is not more than six miles long, a
uniform charge of 6d. for the use of same for any period not
exceeding five minutes, and a further charge of 6d. for every
additional five minutes or portion of five minutes.

Where the line used is over six miles long, the charges will
be 1s. for the use of same for any period not exceeding five
minutes, and a further charge of 1s. for every additional five
minutes or portion of five minutes.

Messages telephoned by subscribers through an exchange
to a bureau station, or from a bureau station to a subscriber
by a subscriber, will be charged half the above rates, and,
when delivered by the department from a bureau station,
3d. will be charged for delivery within the ordinary circuits
of delivery.

Messages outside of the limits described above will be
subject to special charges for delivery, according to the
extra expense thereby incurred

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-fifth
day of September, 1883.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
conferred by the thirty-first section of "The Supreme
Court Act, 1882," His Excellency Sir William Francis Drum-
mond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
thereof, and with the concurrence of His Honour Sir James
Prendergast, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New
Zealand, and His Honour Mr. Justice Richmond, a Judge of
the said Court, doth hereby revoke, as from the thirtieth day
of September instant, the rules number five hundred and
forty-five and five hundred and forty-six in the Code of Civil
Procedure printed as the Second Schedule to the said Act,
and doth hereby make the following rules in lieu thereof,
and doth declare that such rules shall take effect on and
after the first day of October next.

  1. The proper officer shall receive and take such fees as
    are specified in the Table D in the Schedule to this Order in
    Council, and wherever in the said code the Table D thereto
    is referred to the Table D in the Schedule hereto shall be
    deemed to be referred to in lieu thereof.

  2. Provided that, when it shall appear to the satisfaction
    of the Court, or a Judge thereof, that any party is unable or
    ought not to be called upon to pay any of the fees in such
    table mentioned, or any part thereof, it shall be lawful for
    the Court, or a Judge thereof, to dispense with such payment
    subject to such terms as such Court or Judge may think fit.
