Society, situated at Christchurch, is registered as
a friendly society, under "The Friendly Societies
Act, 1882," this 2nd day of November, 1882.

PATENT for the Bending of various kinds of
Timber into wheel-rims, felloes, spring-cart raves,
and every description of bent wood-work for making
carriages and carts and other purposes.
WILLIAM LANGDOWN, of Christchurch, New Zea-
land, has deposited at this office a specification of
the said invention; and I have appointed Friday, the
26th day of January next, at 10 o'clock in the fore-
noon, at this office, to hear the said application and
all objections thereto; and I require all persons
having an interest in opposing the grant of such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 11th day
of January next, at this office, particulars in writing
of their objections to the said application, otherwise
they will be precluded from urging the same.

New Zealand, Plumber, and THOMAS CLARKE JEN-
KINS, of the said City of Wellington, Book-keeper,
have deposited at this office a specification of the said
invention; and I have appointed Friday, the 26th
day of January next, at 10 o'clock in the forenoon, at
this office, to hear the said application and all objec-
tions thereto; and I require all persons having an
interest in opposing the grant of such Letters Patent

Institution for the Deaf-and-Dumb, Sumner.
APPLICATIONS for appointment to the office of
Assistant-Master in this institution will be
received by the Director, at Sumner, near Christ-
church, up to the 15th November next. The salary
will be either Β£110 with board, &c., or Β£150 without
board.
Applications must be accompanied with testi-
monials, and particulars as to age, &c. A teacher
holding a certificate of Class D from the Education
Department would be preferred. The person ap-
pointed will be required to enter on his duties at the
new year.

Standing Orders on Local Bills.
THE following amended Standing Orders of the
Houses of the General Assembly relative to
Local Bills are published for general information.

- Local Bills are those which, not being Private
Bills, affect particular localities only. - No Local Bill shall be read a second time unless
notice shall have been given of the said Bill in the
locality to which the Bill refers. Such notice shall
state explicitly the object which such Bill is intended
to effect, and shall have been published once at least
in each of three successive weeks before the second
reading in a newspaper circulating in such locality. - At the time of the first publication of such
notice, a copy of the Bill shall be deposited in the
Resident Magistrate's Court of the district, and shall
be open to public inspection. - When it is intended in such Bill to take power
to deal with any lands, plans or surveys of such lands,
on a scale of not less than two inches to a mile, and
certified by an authorized surveyor, shall be deposited
with the Bill. - In the case of Bills authorizing the construction
of harbour works, or the raising of further loans for
the completion of harbour works previously autho-
rized, such Bill shall be accompanied by a statement
of the financial position of the promoters, an estimate
of the cost of construction, and the estimated in-
creased revenue to be derived from the proposed
works, together with the plans or surveys before
mentioned. - Before the Bill is introduced into the Legisla-
tive Council or House of Representatives, the before-
mentioned plans or surveys and estimates shall be
forwarded to the office of the Clerk of the House in
which the Bill is to be initiated.

HEREBY notify that the right for a term of
seven years to cut and remove Timber from the
parcels of land enumerated in the Schedule here-
under will be offered, at a premium or foregift, for
sale by public auction, at this office, on Monday, the
18th day of December, 1882, at the hour of 11 o'clock
in the forenoon.
