The above township is situated in the heart of the Waimate Plains, on the main coast road-line, and is about nine miles from Hawera.

The above township is situate on the coast-line, and accessible by coastal steamer. The coach-line from Hawera to New Plymouth forms the main street of the township, which is distant thirty-eight miles from New Plymouth.
