Wakanui Road District, County of Ashburton,
divided into Wards.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance of powers vested in me by "The
Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875," I, James Prender-
gast, the Administrator of the Government of the
Colony of New Zealand, do hereby divide the Waka-
nui Road District into three subdivisions, with the
names and boundaries set forth in the First Schedule
hereto; and I do further declare that the number of
members to be elected for each of such subdivisions
shall be one member for number one Ward, two mem-
bers for number two Ward, and two members for
number three Ward, and do severally assign the mem-
bers of the Road Board now in office to the said
subdivisions, in the manner set forth in the Second
Schedule hereto.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

No. 1 WARD (SUBURBS).

BOUNDED towards the North-west and South-west
by the north-western and south-western boundaries
of the Wakanui Road District; towards the North-
east by Reserve No. 1496 (in red), and by a line
bearing 144° 9' for a distance of 2023\frac{1}{2} links, drawn
from the southernmost corner of said reserve; thence
north-easterly 54° 9', 1100 links; thence south-
easterly 144° 9', 423 links, to the northernmost cor-
ner of Rural Section 24369; thence south-westerly
along the north-western boundaries of Sections Nos.
24369 and 18126, and the prolongation of north-west
boundary of latter section to the south-west side of
road north-east of Reserve No. 1120 (in red); thence
north-westerly and south-westerly along the latter
reserve and a line in continuation of its north-western
boundary to the centre of road north-east of Section
No. 13757; thence south-easterly along the centre
line of said road to its junction with Wakanui Road;
thence north-westerly along centre of Wakanui
Road to its junction with Trevor's Road; thence
south-westerly along the centre of latter road and a
line in continuation thereof to the middle of the
River Ashburton; and from thence by a line along
the centre of said river to the aforesaid north-western
boundary of the Wakanui Road District.

No. 2 WARD (WAKANUI FLAT).

Bounded towards the North-east by the centre of the Seafield
and Butterick's Roads from the north-west boundary
to the Wakanui Township Road; thence by the
centre of the latter road and of Leadley's Road to
the sea; towards the South-east by the sea; and
towards the South-west by the south-western boun-
dary of the Wakanui Road District.

No. 3 WARD (PLAINS).

That portion of the Wakanui Road District not
included in the above-described wards.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

No. 1 Ward (Suburbs), one member: FRANCIS
THOMAS MAYO.

No. 2 Ward (Wakanui Flat), two members: HUGO
FRIEDLANDER and JAMES BROWN.

No. 3 Ward (Plains), two members: HENRY
THOMAS WINTER and JOSEPH MEGSON.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice,
the Administrator of the Government of
Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand
and its Dependencies; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
nineteenth day of July, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-two.
