Alteration of Boundaries of Counties of Selwyn and
Akaroa.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by section thirty of "The Counties
Act, 1876," it is enacted that the Governor in
Council may, by Proclamation, alter the boundaries
of any counties, and declare that, from and after a
day to be named in such Proclamation, the new boun-
daries set forth in such Proclamation shall be the
boundaries of such counties: And whereas a petition
has been presented to His Excellency the Governor
by the Council of the County of Selwyn, praying him
to alter the boundaries of such county, and to declare
that the boundaries of such county shall be those set
forth in the First Schedule hereto; and a petition has
also been presented to His Excellency the Governor
by the Council of the County of Akaroa, praying him
to alter the boundaries of such last-named county,
and to declare that the boundaries of such county
shall be those set forth in the Second Schedule
hereto:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council thereof, and in exercise and pur- suance of all powers and authorities enabling him in
that behalf, doth hereby alter the boundaries of the
County of Selwyn, and declare that, from and after
the date hereof, the boundaries set forth in the First
Schedule hereto shall be the boundaries of such
county; and doth hereby alter the boundaries of the
County of Akaroa, and declare that, from and after
the date hereof, the boundaries set forth in the
Second Schedule hereto shall be the boundaries of
such county.

FIRST SCHEDULE.
COUNTY OF SELWYN.

BOUNDED towards the North and East by Ashley
County from the saddle near the source of the
Hurunui to the mouth of the Waimakariri River;
towards the East by the ocean and Lyttelton Har- bour to the south-west corner of the Lyttelton Muni- cipality; thence by the western boundary of the said
municipality; thence by a line due north to the
summit of the Port Hills; thence towards the South- east by a line along the summit of the Port Hills to
the north-east corner of Rural Section No. 1060;
thence towards the South by the northern boundaries
of Sections Nos. 1060, 1452, and 1267 to the north- west corner of the latter section; thence by the
western boundary of Section No. 1267, the northern
and western boundaries of Section No. 1268, and the
northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 1046, 18810,
13595, 13631, and 895 to the north-west corner of the
latter section; thence southerly by the western
boundary thereof to a point opposite the centre of the
Road and Drain Reserve separating Sections Nos.
13589 and 3700; thence crossing the road and follow- ing the centre of said reserve to the River Halswell;
thence along the left bank of the Halswell River to
Lake Ellesmere; thence again towards the South- east by a right line to the ocean at Taumutu; thence
by the ocean to the mouth of the Rakaia River;
thence towards the South-west by a line along the
centre of that river to its source near Whitcombe
Pass; thence towards the North-west by a line to
and along the summit of the Southern Alps to the
saddle of the Teremakau, the starting point.

SECOND SCHEDULE.
COUNTY OF AKAROA.

BOUNDED towards the North-east and South by
Lyttelton Harbour and the ocean; and towards the
West by the Selwyn County, hereinbefore defined.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Honorable Arthur Hamilton Gordon,
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Dis- tinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Her Majesty's High
Commissioner for the Western Pacific,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice- Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
nineteenth day of June, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-two.
