- Further information and particulars may be
obtained by application at the Colonial Secretary's
Office.
IRON.
A bonus of one thousand pounds (£1,000) will be
given for the production, in New Zealand, of 300
tons of pig-iron, of marketable quality, from ore pro-
duced in New Zealand.
Conditions.
- The bonus not to be given for any quantity less
than 100 tons. - Notice of the intention to erect ironworks and
claim the bonus must be given to the Colonial Secre-
tary before the 31st December, 1882. - The bonus must be claimed before the 31st De-
cember, 1883. - In the event of more than one claimant giving
such notice, not more than seven-tenths of the bonus
may be claimed by the first producer, and not more
than three-tenths by the second producer; but if
only one claimant becomes a producer on the above
conditions, he may claim the whole of the bonus. - The iron in respect of which any bonus is
claimed, and the ore from which it is manufactured,
will be examined by an officer to be appointed by the
Government, who may require the production of
bonâ fide account sales of quantities not less than
100 tons weight, showing that such iron has been
sold at a fair market price as pig-iron.

Additional Bonuses on Colonial Industries.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following bonuses
will be paid on articles in the Colony of New
Zealand, as under:—
OSTRICHES.
A bonus of five pounds (£5) per head will be given
for healthy ostrich chicks landed in New Zealand for
the purpose of being reared and maintained in the
colony; the number of any importation to be not
less than ten nor more than fifty.
BUTTER OR CHEESE.
A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be
given for the first 25 tons of butter or the first 50
tons of cheese (produced in a factory worked on the
American principle, and to which factory any farmer,
subject to certain conditions, may send his milk),
which shall be exported from New Zealand, and sold
at such prices in a foreign market as shall show that
the articles are of fair quality.
Conditions.
- Notice of intention to claim either of the above
bonuses must be given in writing to the Colonial
Secretary not later than the 31st December, 1882. - The claim must be made before the 30th June,

lished in conformity with the provisions of
"The Execution of Criminals Act, 1858."

CERTIFICATE.
I, PATRICK JOSEPH O'CARROLL, the Medical Officer
in attendance at the execution of Wiremu Hiroki, at
the Gaol of New Plymouth, do hereby certify and
declare that I have this day witnessed the execution
of the said Wiremu Hiroki at the said gaol; and I
do further certify and declare that the said Wiremu
Hiroki was, in pursuance of the sentence of the
Supreme Court, hanged by the neck until his body
was dead.
Given under my hand this eighth day of June,
in the year one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-two, at the Gaol of New
Plymouth.

DECLARATION.
WE do hereby testify and declare that we have this
day been present when the extreme penalty of the
law was carried into execution on the body of Wiremu
Hiroki, convicted at the criminal session of the
Supreme Court held at New Plymouth on the fourth
day of May last, and sentenced to death; and that
the said Wiremu Hiroki was, in pursuance of the
said sentence, hanged by the neck until his body was
dead.
Dated this eighth day of June, in the year
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
two, at the Gaol of New Plymouth.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
Discontinuance of Suwarrow Island Light.
THE French Government has given notice, on the
authority of the Commander of the French vessel
of war "Hussard," that the light on Suwarrow
(Souwaroff) Island is discontinued.
The wooden pyramid, with base of masonry, from
which the light was exhibited, remains standing.
The position of this pyramid is stated to be, lat.
13° 13' S., long. 163° 10' W. The bearings are mag-
netic. Variation, 8° easterly in 1882.

Wellington, 12th June, 1882.
NOTICE is hereby given that a rocky patch or
shoal has been discovered in Foveaux Strait,
with the following bearings:—
From the North Head of Ruapuke Island, N.E. by
E. 3/4 E.; from the centre of Green Island, N.E. 3/4 N.;
from Dog Island light, E. 1/2 S.; and from Toby Rock,
N.E. 3/4 E.; distant about two miles.
This danger will only break in heavy weather.
Captain Fairchild, of the Government steamer
"Stella," by whom the position of the rock was
fixed, reports the shoal as extending from N.W. to
S.E. half a cable long, and the bottom of white rock,
easily seen when on it. Bearings are magnetic.
