Districts constituted under "The Marriage Act,
1880."

A PROCLAMATION.

N pursuance and exercise of the power and au-
thority vested in the Governor by "The Marriage
Act, 1880," I, Arthur Hamilton Gordon, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby abolish the
existing marriage district known as the Ashburton
District, and do proclaim and declare that the terri-
tory heretofore comprised within the said district is
hereby divided anew into two marriage districts, the
names and boundaries whereof shall be as follow:-

RAKAIA DISTRICT.
All that area in the Provincial District of Canter-
bury, bounded towards the North-east by the left
bank of the Rakaia River; towards the South-east by
the ocean; towards the South-west by a road-line
north-east of Sections Nos. 27247, 27248, 26910,
26909, 26495, 26667, 26494, 26635, 25840, 25910,
25770, 25646, 25769, 26534, and 24981, said sections
being in the South Rakaia, Rakaia, and the Ashburton
Survey Districts, to the railway-line, across said
railway-line to and by a road-line which forms the
north-eastern boundary of Sections Nos. 26522, 25396,
30076, and 25981; again towards the South-east by
a road line which forms the north-western boundary-
line of Sections Nos. 25981, 20075, 25986, 25987,
26614, 26615, 27277, 27337, 27311, 27155, 27034,
and 6501; again towards the South-west by a road-
line forming the north-eastern boundary of Sections
Nos. 27031, 27389, 27390, 27493, 27393, and 27394;
towards the North-west by Section No. 27392; again
towards the South-west by Sections Nos. 27392,
27969, 27970, 27985, 28020, 31252, 30505, 30504,
30506, 30509, 34170, and 30966; again towards the
South-east by a road-line forming the north-western
boundary of Section No. 34169; again towards the
South-west by a road-line which forms the north-
eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 28886, 33766,
24466, 24465, 24464, 24463, 24462, 27274, 19118, and
the north-eastern boundary-line of Sections Nos.
15297 and 23724, and a right line from the north-east
corner of said section to the most southerly corner of
Section No. 33767, and by said section to the road
line which forms its north-western boundary; and
again towards the South-east by said road-line which
forms the north-eastern boundary of last-mentioned
section, of Sections Nos. 26124, 20590, 28125, 31447,
31448, 28164, 26143, 25271, 28091, 31779, and 26121,
all of the Ashburton and Spaxton Survey Districts,
to the north branch of the River Ashburton; again
towards the South-west by said branch, and by the
south-western boundaries of Runs Nos. 502, 466, and
352; and towards the North-west by the north-
western boundary of last-mentioned run, and thence
across the Rakaia River to its left bank, the starting
point: including all islands situated in the Rakaia
River between the two extremities of the above-
described district.

ASHBURTON DISTRICT.
All that area in the Provincial District of Canter-
Registration District, before described; towards the
South-east by the ocean; towards the South-west by
the Rangitata River to its source in the Southern
Alps; and towards the North-west by said Alps to
the source of the Rakaia River: together with all
islands situated in the Rakaia River between its
source and the northern boundary of the Rakaia
Registration District, before described.

And I hereby declare that this Proclamation shall
come into operation on the first day of April, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-two.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Honorable Arthur Hamilton Gordon,
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Dis-
tinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Her Majesty's High
Commissioner for the Western Pacific,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at Christ-
church, this ninth day of March, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-two.

Births and Deaths Act, 1875."

A PROCLAMATION.

N pursuance and exercise of the power and au-
thority vested in the Governor by "The Regis-
tration of Births and Deaths Act, 1875," I, Arthur
Hamilton Gordon, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, do hereby abolish the existing regis-
tration district known as the Ashburton District;
and do proclaim and declare that the territory here-
tofore comprised within the said district is hereby
divided anew into two registration districts, the
names whereof shall be the Rakaia and Ashburton
Districts, and the boundaries whereof shall be coter-
minous with the boundaries of the marriage dis-
tricts bearing the same names as are set forth in
a Proclamation of even date herewith, made under
the provisions of "The Marriage Act, 1880."

And I hereby declare that this Proclamation shall
come into operation on the first day of April, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-two.
