BOROUGH OF THAMES.

Notice of the Compulsory Taking of Lands under
"The Public Works Act, 1876," and the various
Acts amending the same, for Road Purposes.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Council of the
Borough of Thames purpose to widen, by an
average width of 33 feet, and improve Queen Street,
formerly known as Eyre Street, from a point com-
mencing opposite the corner peg of the allotment in
the same street in the occupation of Mr. John Gib-
bons, to a point of termination distant about 346 feet
in a south-easterly direction from the said point of
commencement. And notice is hereby further given
that the said Council require to take for the above
purpose all those pieces or parcels of land hereinafter
mentioned, that is to say, portions of Allotments Nos.
38, 62, 61, and Tapu, of Block XXVIII., of the
Township of Shortland, within the Borough of
Thames, as are set out, shown, delineated, and men-
tioned in a plan and specification now open for public
inspection at the Council Chambers, Albert Street,
Thames.

All persons affected by the proposed widening of
the above-described street, or by the taking of the
lands so required therefor, are hereby required to set
forth in writing any well-grounded objections to the
execution of such works, or to the taking of such
lands, and to send such written objection to the said
Council, at the said Council Chambers, within forty
days from the 9th day of December, 1881.

Acts amending the same, for Drainage Purposes.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Council of the
Borough of Thames purpose to construct and
build an open channel or aqueduct for the purpose of
draining from the southern side of the bridge which
crosses the Hape Creek in Grey Street, partly within
the Borough of Thames, and partly within the Para-
wai Highway District, in the County of Thames, and
thence in a straight line, having a south-easterly
direction, for a distance of 508 feet, along the west
side of Mackay Street, in the said county; and
thence in a straight line, having a south-westerly
direction, to the Kauaeranga Creek; and that such
channel or aqueduct will be of the uniform width of
21 feet or near thereto. And notice is hereby
further given that the said Council will require to
take and acquire for the above purpose all those
pieces or parcels of land hereinafter mentioned, that
is to say, the site of the proposed channel aqueduct:
The bed of the Hape Creek from the bridge in Grey
Street aforementioned to its mouth or termination in
the Kauaeranga Creek, together with portions of
Allotments Nos. 19, 20, 21, 22, of Block XXVIII.,
of the Township of Shortland, as are shown, set out,
delineated, and mentioned in a plan and specification
now open for public inspection at the Council
Chambers, Albert Street, Thames.

All persons affected by the construction of the
above-described channel or aqueduct, or by the
taking of the lands so required therefor, are hereby
required to set forth in writing any well-grounded
objections to the execution of such works, or to the
taking of such lands, and to send such written ob-
jections to the said Council, at the said Council

Chambers, within forty days from the 9th day of
December, 1881.

which crosses the Karaka Creek in Baillie Street, in
the said borough; and thence in a straight line,
having a south-westerly direction, to Mackay Street,
in the said borough; thence in a straight line, in a
westerly direction, for a distance of 330 feet; and
thence in a straight line, having a south-westerly
direction, to Pollen Street, in the said borough;
and that such channel or aqueduct will be of the
uniform width of 21 feet or thereabout. And
notice is hereby further given that the said Council
require to take for the above purpose all those
pieces or parcels of land hereinafter mentioned,
that is to say, the site of the proposed channel or
aqueduct: The bed of the Karaka Creek between the
points of commencement and termination of the open
channel or aqueduct purposed to be constructed,
together with portions of Allotments Nos. 387, 388,
380, 390, 391, 392, 393, 394, 395, of Block Kauae-
ranga No. 1, of the Township of Grahamstown, and
portions of Allotments Nos. 545Π², 544Π², 5444, 565,
564, of Block Te Karaka No. 1, of the Township of
Shortland, within the Borough of Thames, as are set
out, shown, delineated, and mentioned in a plan and
specification now open for public inspection at the
Council Chambers, Albert Street, Thames.

All persons affected by the construction of the
above-described channel or aqueduct, or by the taking
of the lands so required therefor, are hereby required
to set forth in writing any well-grounded objections
to the execution of such works, or to the taking of
such lands, and to send such written objections to the
said Council, at the said Council Chambers, within
forty days from the 9th day of December, 1881.

I, COLIN MCKENZIE GORDON, Sheriff of the District
of Otago, hereby give notice that, under a writ
of fieri facias, duly issued out of the Supreme Court
of New Zealand, Otago and Southland District, at
Dunedin, in an action, No. 69, wherein HENRY WISE
and JAMES CAFFIN, of Dunedin, Booksellers, trading
together as "Wise, Caffin, and Co." are Plaintiffs,
and JOHN GRAHAM, of Dunedin aforesaid, late a
Bookseller and Newsvendor, is Defendant, I have
taken in execution, at the suit of the said Henry
Wise and James Caffin, the Execution Creditors, the
estate in fee-simple of the said John Graham in all
that piece of land containing by admeasurement sixty-
nine (69) acres three (3) roods and twenty-eight (28)
perches, more or less, situated in the Maungatua
District, in the Provincial District of Otago, being
Sections numbered respectively thirty-one (31), forty-
nine (49), fifty (50), fifty-one (51), fifty-two (52),
fifty-three (53), fifty-four (54), and fifty-five (55),
Block one (I.), on the record map of the said Maun-
gatua District, and being the whole of the land
referred to in a receipt of the Receiver of Land
