SILK.

A bonus of fifty per cent. on the value realized for
the first thousand pounds' (£1,000) worth of cocoons
of the silkworm, or silkworms' eggs, produced in the
colony, to be paid on quantities of not less value than
fifty pounds (£50) nor more than one hundred
pounds (£100) produced by any one person.

SUGAR-REFINING.

A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be
given for three years in succession for the refining
each year, by machinery established in New Zealand,
of not less than 100 tons of cane sugar. The esta-
blishment by which such refining is effected must be
what is ordinarily known as a sugar-refinery. The firm
refining the first 100 tons of sugar, and receiving the
bonus, shall be also entitled to the bonus of the two
following years upon fulfilling the conditions above
named.

OSTRICHES.

A bonus of five pounds (£5) per head will be given
for healthy ostrich chicks landed in New Zealand for
the purpose of being reared and maintained in the
colony; the number of any importation to be not
less than ten nor more than fifty.

BUTTER OR CHEESE.

A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be
given for the first 25 tons of butter or the first 50
tons of cheese (produced in a factory worked on the
American principle, and to which factory any farmer,
subject to certain conditions, may send his milk)
which shall be exported from New Zealand, and sold
at such prices in a foreign market as shall show that
the articles are of fair quality.

Conditions.

  1. Notice of intention to claim any of the above
    bonuses must be given in writing to the Colonial
    Secretary not later than the 31st December, 1882.
  2. The claim must be made before the 30th June,
  3. The other conditions as to quantity, quality, and
    value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer
    appointed for the purpose by the Government.
  4. Further information and particulars may be
    obtained by application to the Colonial Secretary's
    Office.

IRON.

A bonus of one thousand pounds (£1,000) will be
given for the production, in New Zealand, of 300
tons of pig-iron, of marketable quality, from ore pro-
duced in New Zealand.

Conditions.

  1. The bonus not to be given for any quantity less
    than 100 tons.
  2. Notice of the intention to erect ironworks and
    claim the bonus must be given to the Colonial Secre-
    tary before the 31st December, 1882.
  3. The bonus must be claimed before the 31st De-
    cember, 1883.
  4. In the event of more than one claimant giving
    such notice, not more than seven-tenths of the bonus
    may be claimed by the first producer, and not more
    than three-tenths by the second producer; but if
    only one claimant becomes a producer on the above
    conditions, he may claim the whole of the bonus.
  5. The iron in respect of which any bonus is
    claimed, and the ore from which it is manufactured,
    will be examined by an officer to be appointed by the
    Government, who may require the production of
    bona fide account sales of quantities not less than
    100 tons weight, showing that such iron has been
    sold at a fair market price as pig-iron.

Authorizing Entry on certain Native Lands for Pur-
poses of Railway Surveys.

BY virtue of the powers conferred on the Minister
for Public Works, under section 77 of "The
Public Works Act, 1882," I hereby authorize

DANIEL ROSS, Esq.,
Surveyor, of Wellington, and his assistants, to enter
upon such Native lands as are mentioned in the
Schedule below for the purpose of surveying for a
railway line.

SCHEDULE.

  1. Native reserve near Woodville, on right bank of
    Manawatu River, 1,575 acres.
  2. Mangatainoko Block.
  3. Pahiatua Native Reserve, 1,017 acres 1 rood.
  4. Native reserve near Cemetery Reserve, 1,000
    acres.
  5. Native reserve, 1,040 acres.
  6. Native reserve, 469 acres.
  7. Wi Waka Native Reserve, 1,000 acres.
  8. Te Ropiha Native Reserve, 307 acres.

Notice to Mariners. -No. 37 of 1882.

GREEN LIGHT SHOWING POSITION OF NORTH
TRAINING WALL, WANGANUI RIVER.

THE Wanganui Harbour Board have given notice
that, from and after the 1st January next, a
green light, showing up and down the channel, will
be exhibited on No. 4 beacon from the wharf (north
side) from sunset to sunrise.

PORT PHILLIP BAY.
THE attention of pilots, masters of vessels, and
others, is drawn to the following errors in Admiralty
charts:-
Black buoy, north-east extremity of spit off Point
Richards, in 25 feet water, marked on charts R
instead of B.
Portarlington Red Light. -Charts show the arc of
the light as radiating from the green or jetty light
instead of from the red light.
