Zymotic Diseases. - The diseases in this class caused 20 deaths or 20.62 per cent. of the total deaths in July, against 23
deaths or 24.47 per cent. in June. There was 1 death from measles in July, against 11 in June; this death occurred at Christ-
church. Two deaths from scarlet fever occurred at Auckland; also 3 deaths from typhoid fever at Christchurch, and 1 at
Auckland.
Constitutional Diseases. - There were 17 deaths from these causes in July. Of these, 9 were from phthisis and 2 from
cancer.
Local Diseases. - These diseases caused 44 deaths in July, against 40 in June. Of these, diseases of the nervous system
caused 18 deaths in July, against 7 in June; and diseases of the respiratory organs, 14 deaths in July, against 18 in June.
The subjoined table shows the mortality for the last two months at each of these four boroughs from six principal zymotic
diseases of the miasmatic order, and also the deaths from certain inflammatory diseases of the lungs. These causes of death
have been distinguished from the others of the classes to which they belong, as being the most important special diseases which
give rise to sudden increases in the death-rates of towns, and the prevalence of which is closely connected with sanitary
condition and climatic influence of the season on health.
