Land taken for Road through Reserve No. 678, Wai-
mate Survey District, Provincial District of Can-
terbury.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule
hereto is required to be taken under "The
Public Works Act, 1876," and "The Public Works
Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1878," for a certain work,
to wit, the construction of a road through Reserve
number six hundred and seventy-eight, Waimate
Survey District, Provincial District of Canterbury:

And whereas the Waimate County Council has laid
before the Governor the memorial and map men-
tioned in and signed and certified as required by the
said Acts:

Now, therefore, I, Arthur Hamilton Gordon, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and
with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
of the said colony, in exercise and pursuance of the
powers and authorities in me vested by sections
twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four,
and twenty-five of "The Public Works Act, 1876,"
and by section twenty-eight of "The Public Works
Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1878," and of any other
power and authority enabling me in that behalf, do
hereby proclaim and declare that the land described
in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for the pur-
poses of a road; and that, from and after the twenty-
third day of June, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-one, the land so described shall become ab-
solutely vested in fee-simple in Her Majesty, dis-
charged from all mortgages, charges, claims, estates,
and interests of what kind soever, for use as a road.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Waimate Survey District, Pro-
vincial District of Canterbury, containing by ad-
measurement 1 acre and 32 perches, more or less,
being a part of Reserve No. 678. Commencing at a
point on the eastern boundary of W.S. 4274, situate
1488.9 links south-west of the north-east corner of
said section; thence South-easterly, 99° 7', a distance
of 1201.2 links; South-westerly, 186° 41', a distance
of 60 links; South-easterly, 178° 10' 30", a distance
of 41.2 links; North-westerly, 279° 7', a distance of
1211.5 links; returning along the eastern boundary
of Section 4274, a distance of 100 links, to the start-
ing point: be the aforesaid linkages more or less;
and the same being more particularly delineated upon
the map attached to the memorial above referred to.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Honorable Arthur Hamilton Gordon,
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Dis-
tinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Her Majesty's High
Commissioner for the Western Pacific,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
fourteenth day of June, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-one.
