THOMAS DICK.

Resident Magistrate's Office,
Hokianga, 20th May, 1881.

SIR,-With reference to your letter of 8th February,
informing me that His Excellency the Governor had,
in pursuance of "The Native Schools Sites Act,
1880," appointed me to ascertain the title of certain
Natives to land at Mangamuka, appropriated by them
for the site of a Native school, I have the honor to
report that, after having given notice by advertise-
ment published in the Northern Luminary (copies of
which advertisement I also forwarded to Natives
residing on the spot), I visited Mangamuka on the
19th instant, and, after due inquiry, at which the
whole of the leading chiefs of the district were pre-
sent, am satisfied as to the ownership of the land, and
the willingness of the Native owners to appropriate
the same for the site of a school in accordance with
the requirements of "The Native Schools Sites Act,
1880."

A tracing and description of the land so dealt with,
authenticated by my signature, is forwarded here-
