School Commissioners appointed.

PURSUANT to section 11 of "The Education
Reserves Act, 1877," the under-mentioned
gentlemen have been appointed by the Education
Board to be School Commissioners for the Provincial
District of Marlborough, namely :-

WILLIAM EVANS DIVE, Esq.

Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.

NOTICE is hereby given that Messrs. SIEVWRIGHT
and STOUT, of Wellington, in the Colony of
New Zealand, Solicitors, have applied, on behalf of
WILLIAM WHYTE and WILLIAM FINNOCK, trading as
Grocers in the City of Dunedin, in the said colony,
under the style of "Whyte and Finnock," to register,
under "The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade mark
of which the following is a description: -
Description of Trade Mark.
A picture of the sun half risen out of the ocean
horizon throwing out his rays, and having the words
"Trade Mark" printed in black letters across the
sun's face. On the right side of the picture a
steamer appears, and on the left side a ship under
full sail is in sight.
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such
Trade Mark shall apply.
All descriptions of groceries, but principally coffees
and spices.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS,
Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of
Victoria, has applied, on behalf of WILLIAM CAMERON,
ALEXANDER CAMERON, and GEORGE CAMERON, trading
together as Tobacco Manufacturers under the name
or style of "William Cameron and Brothers," at
Petersburg, Virginia, in the United States of America,
and under the name or style of "Alexander Cameron
and Company," at Richmond, in Virginia aforesaid,
and under the name or style of "Cameron Brothers
and Company," at Melbourne, in the Colony of
Victoria, and at Sydney, in the Colony of New South
Wales, hereby apply, under the provisions of "The
Trade Marks Act, 1866," to be registered as the
proprietors of the following trade marks numbered
from 1 to 11, of which the following is a description,
viz. :-
Description of Trade Marks.
No. 1 is a coloured lithograph. representing a
woman nude to the loins, having very long and
luxuriant tresses, which she is combing with a star.
She is surrounded with clouds and stars. A circular
border encloses the picture, and is broken at the top
by an oblong space on which is the word "Venus,"
and at the bottom by another space in which are the
words "Alexr. Cameron & Co., Richmond, Va."
Outside the circular border are four ornamented
corner pieces.
No. 2 is also a coloured lithograph representing a
North American Indian woman descending to the
earth with a bow in her left hand and green tobacco
leaves in her right hand, which is uplifted above her
head. On the earth, and waiting to receive her, are
representations of a Turk, an African, a Chinaman, a
