Property Assessment Act.
Property-Tax Department,
Wellington, 14th May, 1881.
NOTICE is hereby given that all persons who have
become liable to taxation under the above Act
since the assessment roll for 1880-81 was made up
are required to send statements of their property not
later than the 15th day of June next.
Persons now on the roll who have acquired further
property since the above roll was completed are
required to send in statements showing such further
property, whether real or personal.

Forms can be obtained on application at the
Deputy-Commissioner's Office, or at any Post Office
where there is a Telegraph Station.
All persons taxable under the above Act for the
year 1880-81, who have neglected to make returns
thereunder, are warned that they will be immediately
proceeded against for such neglect, in accordance
with the provisions of the said Act.
Penalty for neglecting to make returns is £100 and
treble duty.

Gold Fields Notices.
Gold-Mining Lease cancelled.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the
Governor has been pleased to pronounce the
under-mentioned gold-mining lease cancelled, and
that the ground is now open for application as if no
lease of the said ground had ever been applied for:—
John Ewing; 4 acres 2 roods 13 perches, Section
38, Block I., St. Bathans District. No. 720c.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the
Governor has been pleased to pronounce the
under-mentioned special claim cancelled:—
The Nil Desperandum Quartz-Mining Company
(Limited); 29 acres 1 rood 33 perches, Section 15,
Block XIV., District of Reefton; and that the
ground, with the exception of 16 acres 2 roods
applied for by the above Company for a gold-mining
lease, is now open to holders of miners' rights or
business licenses, or to applicants for a lease.

Certificate of Protection granted to the Star of the
East Quartz-Mining Company.

IN accordance with section 3 of "The Mines Act
1877 Amendment Act, 1879," this certificate of
protection for twelve months, from the 11th day of
May, 1881, to the 11th day of May, 1882, is granted
in favour of the Star of the East Quartz-Mining
Company (Registered) for their gold-mining lease,
No. 469, of 16 acres 2 roods 4 perches, Section 10,
Block II., Bannockburn District, Otago Gold Fields.

Gold-Mining Lease to be granted.
IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of
"The Mines Act, 1877," and with the regulations
made under that Act for the granting of leases for
gold-mining purposes, it is hereby notified that it is
intended to grant a lease of Crown lands for gold-
mining purposes to the applicants specified in the
annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objec-
tions against such lease.
Objections to the granting of such lease, stating
the grounds of objection, must be made in writing,
and lodged with the Warden at Greymouth on or
before the 13th day of June, 1881.
Copy of the application made and plan annexed
may be seen at the Warden's Office at Greymouth.
SCHEDULE.
APPLICANTS: Evan H. Lewis and Olof Lundmark.
Style under which it is intended to conduct the
business: "Lewis and Lundmark." 4 acres, 200 yards
south of Baker's Creek, on the beach above high-
water mark, and about 30 yards north of the finger-
post at Seventeen-Mile Bluff, in the Nelson South-
West Mining District.
Given under my hand, at Nelson, this twenty-
fifth day of May, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-one.
