REPORTED JETTY LIGHT ON BRIGHTON JETTY.
REFERRING to the Notice to Mariners relating to
lights, buoys, and beacons in Victoria, published in
January, 1877, in which it is stated that a red light
is shown from the new pier, Brighton, visible three to
four miles, this is to notify that the previous notice
was published in error, and that such light is not
exhibited.

Decision of Court of Inquiry into Stranding of s.s.
"Mohaka" confirmed.

Wellington, 5th April, 1881.
HIS Excellency the Governor has, in pursuance of
the provisions of section 244 of "The Shipping
and Seamen's Act, 1877," been pleased to confirm the
following decision of the Court of Inquiry into the
stranding of the s.s. "Mohaka," and to fix the term of
suspension of the New Zealand Certificate of Com-
petency as Mate, Home Trade, No. 5211, belonging
to Thomas Eckford, at six calendar months, from the
11th March last.

THAT the casualty was caused by a breach of disci-
pline on the part of Thomas Eckford, Mate of the
vessel, by intrusting her to a seaman instead of the
proper officer, John Symons; that the Mate, in con-
sequence of the breach of discipline aforesaid, should
have his certificate suspended during the Governor's
pleasure, and I hereby suspend it accordingly. No
costs are directed to be paid by any party to the
inquiry. The Mate's certificate is hereby ordered to
be delivered up for said cancellation.
