purposes, commencing at a point at Sambo Creek, on
the south side of Mount Greenland Range, one mile
west of Ceder Creek, and taking one head of water
therefrom; crossing Ceder Creek and taking three
heads of water from it, and forming a reservoir on
line of race half a mile north of Ceder Creek. Area,
60 square yards by 8 feet deep. Also making
another reservoir on line of race, one and a half miles
north of Ceder Creek, of the same size as the first,
and passing through applicant's drainage area, and
taking eight heads of water from it, and terminating
at Zala's mining lease at the head of Black's Creek,
Greenland Range, having a by-wash at each reservoir
and at a distance of 10 chains along the line of race.
The length of such race is six miles, 200 feet
of which will be a tunnel or thereabouts, and its
intended course is east by west.
Time estimated for construction and completion,
two years.
The mean depth of such race is 2 feet, and the
mean breadth is 2 feet 6 inches, and it is proposed
to divert twelve Government-heads of water.

the provisions of "The Mining Companies Act,

  1. The name and style of the Company is the Southern
    Cross Petroleum Company (Limited).
  2. The place of operations is at Rotukautuku, Waiapu, East
    Coast, North Island, New Zealand.
  3. The registered office of the Company is at Gisborne,
    Poverty Bay, North Island, New Zealand.
  4. The nominal capital of the Company is forty-eight thou-
    sand pounds, in forty-eight thousand shares of one pound each.
  5. The number of shares subscribed for is forty-eight thou-
