in the Kowai Road District, being portion of Section
No. 23542, commencing at a point on the terrace
forming the northern boundary of Section No. 4283.
Bounded as follows: South-easterly by a line, 251
links; North-easterly by the River Waipara, 200
links; North-westerly by a line, 248 links; South-
westerly by the above-mentioned terrace to com-
mencing point, 200 links.
All that piece or parcel of land containing by ad-
measurement 3 roods 15 perches, more or less, situate
in the Waipara Road District, being portion of Section
No. 25276, commencing at a point on the south side of
the road forming the north-eastern boundary of said
section 897 links from its north-western corner.
Bounded as follows: North-westerly by lines, 507
and 341 links respectively; South-westerly by a line,
100 links; South-easterly by lines, 334 and 508 links
respectively; North-easterly by public road to com-
mencing point, 100 links.
All that piece or parcel of land containing by ad-
measurement 4 acres and 34 perches, more or less,
situate in the Waipara Road District, being portion
of Section No. 25342, commencing at a point on the
north side of road forming the south-western boun-
dary of said section 897 links from its south-western
corner. Bounded as follows: North-westerly by
lines, 605 and 1535 links respectively; North-easterly
by the terrace forming the north-eastern boundary
of said section, 225 links; South-easterly by lines,
1440 and 634 links respectively; South-westerly by
public road to commencing point, 202 links.
All that piece or parcel of land containing by ad-
measurement 19 acres 3 roods 24 perches, more or
less, situate in the Waipara Road District, being
portions of Sections Nos. 7538 and 25342, commencing
at a point 14340 links distant in a south-westerly
direction from Trig. C. Bounded as follows: North-
easterly by a line, 485 links; North-westerly by a
public road, 1962 links; South-westerly by a public
road and lines, 324, 137, and 514 links; North-west-
erly by a line, 353 links; South-westerly by before-
mentioned terrace, 225 links; South-easterly by
lines, 75 and 378 links respectively; South-westerly
by a line, 50 links; South-easterly by a line, 2199
links; North-easterly by a line to commencing point,
200 links.
Be all the above measurements either more or less;
the several parcels of land being situate in the Pro-
vincial District of Canterbury, Colony of New Zea-
land, and are more particularly delineated upon the
plan marked P.W.D. 7854, deposited in the office of
the Minister for Public Works at Wellington, in the
Provincial District of Wellington.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Honorable Arthur Hamilton Gordon,
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Dis-
tinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Her Majesty's High
Commissioner for the Western Pacific,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in

the Seal of the said Colony, at the

Dividing County of Hawera into Ridings, and making
Arrangements for First Elections.

A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities vested
in me by "The Counties Act, 1876," and all Acts
amending the same, and of all other powers and au-
thorities in anywise enabling me in that behalf, I,
Arthur Hamilton Gordon, the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council of the said colony,
and for the better enabling the said Acts to be
brought into operation in the County of Hawera, do
hereby proclaim, order, and declare that the said
County of Hawera shall be divided into three ridings,
to respectively called the Ngaire Riding, the Wai-
mate Riding, and the Hawera Riding, the boundaries
whereof shall be those particularly set forth in the
Schedule hereto: And I do hereby, further, with the
like advice and consent, proclaim, order, and declare
that the number of members of the County Council
of the said County of Hawera shall be for the Ngaire
Riding, two members; for the Waimate Riding, three
members, and for the Hawera Riding, three members:
And, further, with the like advice and consent, I do
hereby proclaim, declare, and appoint Friday, the
sixteenth day of December, one thousand eight hund-
red and eighty-one, to be the day on which the first
general election of the Council of the said County
of Hawera shall be held: And, further, that the
Institute, Hawera, shall be the place at which and
Monday, the nineteenth day of December, one thou-
sand eight hundred and eighty-one, at the hour of
twelve o'clock noon, shall be the day and hour on
which the first meeting of the County Council of the
County of Hawera shall be held respectively: And,
further, that, until the formation and coming into
force of voters' rolls for the election of members of
the County Council of the said county, the persons
entitled to vote at such elections in each riding shall
be those mentioned in the fifty-first section of "The
Counties Act, 1876;" and all such persons qualified
or entitled as in the said section mentioned shall be
deemed to be county electors within each riding for
the purposes of such elections.
SCHEDULE.
NGAIRE RIDING.
ALL that area bounded towards the North and North-
east by a right line from Mount Egmont to the
source of the Patea River, and by said river to
where it first crosses the confiscation boundary-line
(running in the direction of Mount Egmont);
towards the South-west by said confiscation line and
its production to the Waingongoro River, by said
river to its source, and by a right line to Mount
Egmont, the starting point.
WAIMATE RIDING.
All that area bounded towards the North-east and
East by a right line from Mount Egmont to the
source of the Waingongoro River, and by that river;
towards the South by the sea; towards the North-
west by the Taungatara River to its source; and
thence by a right line to Mount Egmont, the start-
ing point.
HAWERA RIDING.
All that area bounded towards the North-east by
the confiscation line, before mentioned, and its pro-
duction (running in the direction of Mount Egmont)
from a point at which the Waingongoro River crosses
said line to where the Patea River last crosses it;
thence towards the South by a right line to the
source of Manawapou River; towards the East by
