The following remarks apply only to the above four principal boroughs :
The births were 298 in July, against 267 in June, an increase of 31.
The deaths in July were 102, against 103 in June, a decrease of 1.
There were 10 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards, viz., 3 males of 68, 73, and 78 at Auckland; 3 males of 74, 80,
and 83, with 1 female of 80, at Wellington; 1 male of 67 and 1 female of 78 at Christchurch; and 1 male of 78 at Dunedin.
Zymotic Diseases. - These diseases caused 12 deaths, or 11.76 per cent. of the total deaths in July, against 15 deaths or
14.56 per cent. in June.
Constitutional Diseases. - The deaths from these diseases increased from 20 in June to 23 in July; the deaths from
tubercular diseases having caused 20 deaths in July, against 14 in June.
Local Diseases. - These diseases exhibited a marked increase in July, against the number in June; the deaths from these
causes having amounted to 46 in July, against 38 in June. Of these, diseases of the respiratory organs caused 20 deaths in July,
against 10 in June.
Violent Deaths. - There was only 1 death under this class registered in the four boroughs during July, the number in June
having been 13.

The subjoined table shows the mortality for the last two months at each of these four boroughs from six principal Zymotic
diseases of the Miasmatic order, and also the deaths from certain inflammatory diseases of the lungs. These causes of death
have been distinguished from the others of the classes to which they belong, as being the most important special diseases which
give rise to sudden increases in the death-rates of towns, and the prevalence of which is closely connected with sanitary
condition and climatic influence of the season on health.
