Port of Poverty Bay.
A portion of a cellar situate on Section 373,
Read's Block, Gladstone Road, Gisborne, and to be
known as
COMMON'S BOND,
-to be a warehouse for the reception of goods
under bond.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
twenty-fifth day of February, one thou-

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from
Portmaster, Brisbane, are published for general in-
formation.

SPENCER GULF.

NOTICE is hereby given that the s.s. "Governor
Musgrave," whilst proceeding from Franklin Har-
bour towards Salt Creek Cove, struck a rock, having,
it is supposed, about 10 feet water over it. It was
nearly low water at the time, and soundings taken
gave 3 fathoms. Approximate position of the rock,
lat. 33° 48′ 30″ S., long. 136° 52' 15" Е.

SUNKEN PATCH, PRINCE OF WALES CHANNEL,
TORRES STRAITS.

THE sunken patch in the Prince of Wales Channel,
upon which the "Canon Harrison" touched, has
been found to lie in the following position: Beacon
on Ipili Reef, E. N.; south-west extreme of Goode
Island, S.E. S.

The patch, which is of coral, is 200 feet in length
by 100 in width, and has on it a depth of 16 feet at
low-water springs.

The black buoy recently placed off the south end
of d reef is now laid on this sunken patch.

NORTH-WEST CHANNEL, MORETON BAY.

A LARGE beacon is now placed at the back of the
beach on Bribie Island, which, when in a line with
the South-east Glasshouse on a S.W. by W. bearing,
leads through the channel between the North Banks
and the Hamilton Patches in not less than 6
fathoms at low water.

The northern half of the beacon is painted white,
and the southern half black, the latter colour ren-
dering the beacon more distinguishable when the
Sun is to the westward.

Notice to Mariners. - No. 10 of 1880.

DISCONTINUANCE OF HARBOUR STAFF AND LIGHT AT
WAIKOUAITI, EAST COAST OF MIDDLE ISLAND.

Wellington, 24th February, 1880.

NOTICE is hereby given that, from and after the
first day of April next, the harbour establish-
ment at Waikouaiti, and the white harbour light at
present exhibited there, will be discontinued.

IT is hereby notified for public information that,
concurrently with the establishment of the new
fortnightly mail service between Europe and
Australia vid Brindisi and Colombo, the Imperial
Government has decided to abandon the route via
Southampton.

For the future, therefore, only a mail via Brindisi
will be made up for the United Kingdom by the
Suez route.

The rates of postage on correspondence from
New Zealand for the United Kingdom via Brindisi
will remain as at present, viz. :-

Letters ... ... ... 8d. per ounce.
Books ... ... ... 2d. per ounce.
Newspapers ... ... 2d. each 4-ounce paper,
and 1d. for each ad-
ditional 4 ounces.

THE Government having secured suitable accom-
modation at Sumner, Canterbury, for the pro-
posed Institution for the Education and Training of
Deaf-mutes, Mr. and Mrs. Van Asch will be prepared
to receive pupil-boarders at the Institution on the
1st March, 1880. Full information may be obtained
on application to the undersigned, or to the Secre-
taries of the several Education Boards.
