Gold-Mining Lease cancelled.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the
Governor has been pleased to pronounce the
under-mentioned gold-mining lease in the Nelson
South-West Mining District cancelled, and that the
ground is now open for application as if no lease of
the said ground had ever been applied for :--

Alexander McCloy, Charles Morel, and John Brennan;
10 acres 1 rood 25 perches, Lyell District.

Member of St. Bathans Local Board of Health
appointed.

NOTICE is hereby given that, in exercise of the
powers vested in it by the fourteenth section of
"The Public Health Act, 1876," the Central Board
of Health has appointed

Mr. ALBERT HILL,
of St. Bathans, in the County of Maniototo, to be a
Member of the Local Board of Health (vice Mr.
Samuel Hanger, deceased) for the District of St.
Bathans, as the same is hereinafter described, that is
to say: Commencing at a point on the east bank of
the Dunstan Creek, opposite the outlet of the St.
Bathans Sludge Channel; from thence a straight
line to the bridge over Muddy Creek Channel, Black-
stone Hill Road; from there the course of Muddy
Creek to Ewing's Reservoir, Surface Hill; from there
a straight line to the junction of Wheeler's Gully
and the Dunstan Creek; from there the course of the
Dunstan Creek to the starting point.

THE following sections of the Property Assessment
Act are published for general information.

Commissioner.

  1. Every company, including banking and insur-
    ance companies, carrying on business in New Zealand
    at the commencement of this Act, shall at all times be
    represented by a person residing in the colony; and
    a place within the colony shall be appointed from
    time to time by every such company as aforesaid at
    which any notices or other instruments affecting the
    company under this Act may be served or delivered.
    (1.) Such person shall be called the "Public
    Officer" of the company for the purposes of this
    Act, and shall be appointed as follows :--
    (a.) In the case of a company having a local
    Board of Directors or Managers resident in the
    colony, within three months after the passing
    of this Act:
    (b.) In the case of a company not having such
    local Board as aforesaid, within six months after
    the passing of this Act.
    The office of Public Officer shall be kept con-
    stantly filled by the making of fresh appoint-
    ments thereto from time to time as may be
    necessary.
    (2.) Every new company shall, within three
    months after it shall commence or enter into busi-
    ness after the passing of this Act, appoint a Public
    Officer, and name a place for delivery of notices as
    aforesaid.
    (3.) Every company failing or neglecting, within
    the time hereinbefore limited in that behalf, to ap-
    point a Public Officer, or name a place at which
    notices or other instruments may be served or de-
    livered as aforesaid, shall be liable to a penalty not
    exceeding fifty pounds a day for every day after the
    time aforesaid during which such neglect shall con-
    tinue.
