The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.
POPULATION. In the case of Nelson the population is given according to the estimate for January, 1879, as the local
authorities have not yet supplied the information necessary to enable the estimate to be corrected. In the other cases the
estimates are for the 1st January, 1880.
The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 453, against 497 in October, being a decrease of 44. The deaths
amounted to 127 in November, an increase of 8 on the number for October.
Of the above deaths, males contributed 74; females, 53. 50 of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being
39.37 per cent. of the whole number; 34 of these were of children under one year of age.
THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and
upwards, and the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs of Auckland, Wellington, Christ-
church, and Dunedin that were registered during the Month of November, 1880.
