Manual and Signet, appoint you, the said Sir Arthur
Hamilton Gordon, until Our further pleasure shall
be signified, to be Our Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Our Colony of New Zealand and
its Dependencies during Our will and pleasure,
with all and singular the powers and authorities
granted to the Governor and Commander-in-Chief
of Our said Colony in Our Letters Patent under
the Great Seal of Our United Kingdom of Great
Britain and Ireland, bearing date at Westminister,
the twenty-first day of February, 1879, in the forty-
second year of Our Reign, which said powers and
authorities We do hereby authorize you to exercise
and perform, according to such Orders and Instruc-
tions as Our Governor and Commander-in-Chief for
the time being hath already received, or as you may
hereafter receive from Us.
II. And, further, We do hereby appoint that, so
soon as you shall have taken the prescribed oaths
and have entered upon the duties of your office,
this Our present Commission shall supersede Our
Commission under Our Sign Manual and Signet,
bearing date the twenty-second day of February,
1879, appointing our Trusty and Well-beloved Sir
Hercules George Robert Robinson, Knight Grand
Cross of Our Most Distinguished Order of Saint
Michael and Saint George, to be Governor and
Commander-in-Chief of Our said Colony and its
Dependencies.
III. And We do hereby command all and singular
Our Officers, Ministers, and loving subjects in Our
said Colony and its Dependencies, and all others
whom it may concern, to take due notice hereof, and
to give their ready obedience accordingly.
Given at Our Court at Osborne House, Isle
of Wight, this seventh day of August,
1880, in the forty-fourth year of Our
Reign.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS,
Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of
Victoria, has applied, on behalf of WILLIAM CLARK,
of Mile-end, Glasgow, in the County of Lanark,
North Britain, Partner of and on behalf of the Firm
of JOHN CLARK, Jun., and COMPANY, Sewing Cotton
Manufacturers there, to register, under "The Trade
Marks Act, 1866," the trade marks numbered from
1 to 4, of which the following is a description, viz. :-
Description of Trade Marks.
No. 1 is an elephant standing on a bar, with the
words "Trade Mark" underneath.
No. 2 is a cross on which are the words, letters,
and figures, "Extra Quality, 6-Cord, 200 Yards," at
the top, and on each side are the words and letters,
"John Clark, Junr., and Co.," and on a shield at the
bottom the figures "90," or other figures to denote
the quality of the goods, all enclosed in a circle.
No. 3 are the words "Mile-end, Extra Quality,"
enclosed in a border, and outside of which is another
border.
No. 4 are the letters and inverted commas,
"M.E.Q.," above which is an elephant standing on
a bar.
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such
Trade Marks shall apply.
Sewing cotton wound on spools or reels, and
sewing cotton not wound on spools or reels.
