Public Libraries Subsidy.
Education Department,
Wellington, 16th January, 1880.
MUNICIPAL and other Governing Bodies that
have levied a "library rate" in accordance with
the provisions of "The Public Libraries Act, 1869,"
are requested to lodge with the Secretary, Education
Department, Wellington, on or before the 10th Feb-
ruary, 1880, any claim they may have for a share of
the current vote for Public Libraries in respect of
the amount of such library rate actually collected up
to the 31st January, 1880.

Deaf and Dumb Institution, Sumner, Canterbury.

THE Government having secured suitable accom-
modation at Sumner, Canterbury, for the pro-
posed Institution for the Education and Training of
Deaf-mutes, Mr. and Mrs. Van Asch will be prepared
to receive pupil-boarders at the Institution on the
1st March, 1880. Full information may be obtained
on application to the undersigned, or to the Secre-
taries of the several Education Boards.

Commissioner of Supreme Court appointed.
NOTICE.—FREDERICK DUTTON, of London,
England, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of
Judicature of England, has been appointed by his
Honor the Chief Justice a Commissioner of the
Supreme Court of New Zealand in London, under
the second section of "The Commissioners of the
Supreme Court Act, 1875," for the purpose of
administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits,
and affirmations as in the said section mentioned.

NOTICE.—FREDERICK DUTTON, of London,
England, of the Supreme Court of Judicature
of England, has been appointed by his Honor the
Chief Justice a Commissioner of the Supreme Court
of New Zealand in London, under the fourth section
of "The Commissioners of the Supreme Court Act,
1875," for the purpose of taking acknowledgments
of married women under any Act or law in force in
the Colony of New Zealand requiring such acknow-
ledgments to be made or taken.

Gold-Mining Leases to be granted.
PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.
IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of
"The Mines Act, 1877," and with the regulations

made under that Act for the granting of leases for
gold-mining purposes, it is hereby notified that it is
intended to grant leases of Crown lands for gold-
mining purposes to the applicants specified in the
annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objec-
tions against such leases.
Objections to the granting of such leases, stating
the grounds of objection, must be made in writing,
and lodged with the Warden at Riverton on or
before the 24th day of February, 1880.
Copy of the applications made and plans annexed
may be seen at the Warden's Office at Riverton.
SCHEDULE.
APPLICANTS: Lewis Longuet and Duncan McArthur.
Style under which it is intended to conduct the
business: "Sydenham." 8 acres, Section 24, Block
IX., Longwood, in the Longwood Mining District.
Applicant: Henry Hirst. Style under which it
is intended to conduct the business: "Waterloo."
16 acres, at Longwood, in the Longwood Mining
District.

We have, to the best of our belief, ascertained the
correctness of the above balance-sheet. We also find
that £56 7s. 2d. was the amount of interest accrued
to 31st December, 1879, but not then payable, and
that £79 14s. 9d. being arrears of interest was
unpaid on the same date.
