Constituting a River District within Marlborough.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Hawke's Bay and Mari-
borough Rivers Act, 1868," as amended by
"The Hawke's Bay and Marlborough Rivers Acts
Amendment Act, 1872" (hereinafter called ("the
said Acts"), it is, amongst other things, enacted that,
upon the petition of the owners and occupiers of not
less than three-fourths of the annual value of the
rateable property of any district therein defined,
any part of the province intersected or bounded by
any river or rivers from the overflow of which
damage may be apprehended, the Superintendent
shall, by Proclamation in the Provincial Gazette,
declare that this Act shall come into operation
within such part of the province, and shall, by such
Proclamation, define the boundaries of the same and
declare the same to be a district under this Act, and
shall also fix the name by which such district shall
be known:
And it is also further enacted that the Superin-
tendant shall also in such Proclamation determine
the number of Conservators who are to constitute
the Board for each such district, but in no case shall
the number be less than five nor more than seven :
And whereas, by the operation of "The Abolition
of Provinces Act, 1875," all the powers by the said
Acts vested in the Superintendent are now vested in,
and are to be exercised and performed by, the
Governor:
And whereas a petition as aforesaid of the owners
and occupiers of the district hereinafter mentioned
has been presented to me, praying that the said
Acts may be brought into operation within such
district:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the
power and authority vested in me by the said Act,
and of every other power and authority in that
behalf, do hereby declare and appoint that the said
Acts shall come into operation within that part of
the Provincial District of Marlborough described in
the Schedule hereto, on and after the seventeenth
day of January instant; and do also declare and
appoint that the said part of the Provincial District
of Marlborough shall be and the same is hereby
constituted a district under the said Acts, to be
called by the name of "The Pukaka River District,"
the boundaries whereof shall be as described in the
Schedule hereto, and also that the number of Con-
servators of which the said Board shall consist shall
be five.
SCHEDULE.
BOUNDED towards the North by part of the southern
boundary of Section forty (40), Picton Suburban, and
the south-eastern boundary of Section forty-one (41),
Picton Suburban; thence by part of the northern
boundary of the same section to a point in transit
with the eastern boundary of Section seven (7),
Tuamarina Run, and by that boundary extended to
the north-eastern corner of Section seven (7) afore-
said; thence by Crown land to the north-western
corner of Section nine (9), Tuamarina Run, and by
the western and part of the south-eastern boundary
of that section to the north-western corner of Section
eleven (11), Marshland Run; towards the East by
Sections eleven (11), ten (10), and seven (7), Marsh-
land Run, and forty-four (44) and forty-five (45),
Picton Suburban; and North-east by Section forty-
five (45) aforesaid; thence by Crown land until it
reaches the north-western boundary of Section four
(4), North Bank of Wairau; thence by that section to
its most southerly point; and thence by a reserve
for a village and a Native reserve to a small creek;
towards the South-west by a Native reserve to the
Wairau River; thence towards the West by that
river to a point in transit with the eastern boundary
of a road line numbered one hundred and sixteen
(116), and by that boundary extended and produced
to the Wairau River aforesaid; thence by that
river to a point in transit with the eastern boundary
of Section fifty-two (52), Waitohi Valley, and by
that section to a point in transit with the eastern
boundary of Section fifty-one (51), Waitohi Valley;
