The following remarks apply only to the above four principal boroughs:---
The births were 225 in June, against 235 in April, a decrease of 10.
The deaths in May were 84, against 109 in April, a decrease of 25.
There were 5 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards-viz., 2 males of 67 and 73, and 1 female of 68, in Auckland;
1 female of 79 in Christchurch; and 1 male of 72 in Dunedin.
Zymotic diseases. The deaths from Zymotic diseases decreased from 28 in May to 22 in June; typhoid fever caused 3
deaths in June, against 6 in May.
Constitutional diseases. The deaths from these diseases were 19, the same number as in May. Of these, cancer caused 2
deaths in June, against 7 in May; tubercular diseases caused 16 deaths in June, against 11 in May; the deaths from Phthisis
increased from 4 in May to 13 in June.
Local diseases caused 33 deaths in June, against 40 in May; of these, diseases of the nervous system caused 6 deaths in
June, against 13 in May.

The subjoined table shows the mortality for the last two months at each of these four boroughs from six principal Zymotic
diseases of the Miasmatic order, and also the deaths from certain inflammatory diseases of the lungs. These causes of death
have been distinguished from the others of the classes to which they belong, as being the most important special diseases which
give rise to sudden increases in the death-rates of towns, and the prevalence of which is closely connected with sanitary
condition and climatic influence of the season on health.
