The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.
POPULATION. In the cases marked thus * the numbers given are for the 3rd March, 1878, according to the census then
taken; in the other cases the numbers have been estimated for the 1st January, 1879.
The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 395, against 445 in May, a decrease of 50. The deaths amounted to
144 in June, a decrease of 26 on the number in May.
Of the above deaths, males contributed 75; females, 69. 65 of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being
45.14 per cent. of the whole number; 43 of these were of children under one year of age.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and
upwards, and the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs of Auckland, Wellington, Christ-
church, and Dunedin that were registered, during the Month of June, 1879.
