Abolishing Prisons at Lyell, Kumara, and Hokitika.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the eighth section of "The Prisons
Act, 1873," it is enacted that, as to any public
prison which the Governor shall be of opinion has
become unfit for the purpose, or unnecessary, or for
any other reason ought to cease to be a public prison,
the Governor may, by Proclamation published in the
New Zealand Gazette, declare that such public prison
shall no longer be a public prison, and upon the
publication of such Proclamation in the New Zealand
Gazette, or from and after any later date fixed in
such Proclamation for the purpose, such public
prison shall cease to be a public prison:
Now, therefore, I, Hercules George Robert
Robinson, the Governor of the Colony of New Zea-
land, do hereby proclaim and declare that, on and
after the thirty-first day of July instant, the public
prisons at Lyell and Kumara, and the Lower Prison
at Hokitika, shall cease to be public prisons.

Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distin-
guished Order of Saint Michael and Saint
George, Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,

Vesting a Reserve.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
tenth day of July, 1879.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the land mentioned in the Schedule
hereto was reserved for a market under the
provisions of "The Oamaru Town Reserve Manage-
ment Ordinance, 1872:" And whereas, in the
opinion of the Governor, it is expedient to vest the
said land in the Corporation of the Town of
Oamaru:
Now, therefore, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of the said colony, and in
exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him
by the sixth section of "The Public Reserves Act
Amendment Act, 1878," doth hereby declare that,
from and after the tenth day of July, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-nine, the said reserve
shall become vested in the Corporation of the said
Town of Oamaru.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that area in the Provincial District of Otago,
containing by admeasurement 1 acre and 21 perches,
more or less, situate in the Town of Oamaru, being
Sections Nos. 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24, Block XIV., on
the map of the said town, deposited in the Survey
Office, Dunedin.

eight hundred and seventy-eight, the purpose of the
said reserve was changed to municipal purposes:
And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, it is
expedient to vest the said land in the Corporation of
the Town of Oamaru:
Now, therefore, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of the said colony, and in
exercise of the powers and authorities vested in

Changing the Purpose of a Portion of a Reserve.
HERCULES ROBINSON, Governor.
WHEREAS by "The Public Reserves Act
Amendment Act, 1878," it is, amongst other
things, enacted that the Governor may declare his
intention to make, change, exchange, or alter the
dedication of any public reserve now or hereafter
vested in Her Majesty or the Governor for any of
the purposes named in Part II. of the Schedule to
the said Act, whether the same be granted or not;
and, in the case of any reserves made under the
authority of section one hundred and forty-four of
"The Land Act, 1877," if it shall, in the opinion of
the Governor, be expedient to change the purpose of
such reserves or any part thereof from the purpose
or presumed purpose for which it was set apart to
any other purpose, or if it shall, in the opinion of
the Governor, be expedient to exchange any of the
land comprised in such reserve for other land of
equal value, to be dedicated to one or more purposes
named in the said Part II., the Governor may, by
notice in the Gazette, declare his intention to make
such change, exchange, or dedication, as the case
may be, and in such notice declare the manner and
terms in which the same is intended to be so made:
