DESCRIPTION OF THE LOWER ASHBURTON ROAD
DISTRICT.
THE Lower Ashburton Road District comprises all
that portion of the Provincial District of Canterbury
bounded towards the North-east by a line running
along the middle of the Ashburton River; towards
the North-west by the Great Southern Railway;
towards the South-west by the Rangitata River; and
towards the South-east by the South Pacific Ocean:
as the same is delineated on the plans deposited in
the Survey Office, Christchurch.

Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distin-
guished Order of Saint Michael and Saint
George, Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at
the Government House, at Wellington,
this twenty-ninth day of May, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-nine.

Extension of Time for making Objections to Valua-
tions under "The Land-Tax Act, 1878."

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At New Plymouth, this third day of June, 1879.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section twenty-seven of "The
Land-Tax Act, 1878," it is enacted that
every objection shall be in writing, under the hand
of the objector or his agent, and shall be made in
the prescribed form, and shall be delivered or posted
to the Deputy Commissioner in the district where
the lands are situated, before the fifteenth day of
March, in the year when the valuation is made:
Now, therefore, I, Hercules George Robert Robin-
son, the Governor of New Zealand, by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
said colony, and in pursuance of the power and
authority in me vested by the twenty-seventh, the
sixty-third, and the eighteenth sections of "The
Land-Tax Act, 1878," do hereby order and appoint
the eighteenth day of June, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-nine, to be the day before which
objections shall be delivered or posted to the Deputy
Commissioner in the districts where the lands are
situated.
And I do hereby order that this Order in Council
shall be deemed to have come into operation from
and after the seventeenth day of March, one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine.

Fixing Time for Deposit of Valuation Lists under
"The Land-Tax Act, 1878."

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
fourth day of June, 1879.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
BY virtue and in pursuance of the powers and
authorities in me vested by the second, seven-
teenth, and twenty-third sections of "The Land-Tax
Act, 1878," and of all other powers and authorities
enabling me in that behalf, I, Hercules George Robert
Robinson, the Governor of the Colony of New Zea-
land, with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said colony, do order that the valua-
tion lists for the several districts under "The Land-
Tax Act, 1878," shall be kept in the several public
places in which the same have been deposited for a
period of fourteen days from the day on which the
same were deposited; and this order shall come into
operation on the day of the date thereof.

Changing the Purpose of a Portion of a Reserve.
HERCULES ROBINSON, Governor.
WHEREAS by "The Public Reserves Act
Amendment Act, 1878," it is, amongst other
things, enacted that the Governor may declare his in-
tention to make, change, exchange, or alter the dedi-
cation of any public reserve now or hereafter vested
in Her Majesty or the Governor for any of the pur-
poses named in Part II. of the Schedule to the said
Act, whether the same be granted or not; and, in the
case of any reserves made under the authority of
section one hundred and forty-four of "The Land
Act, 1877," if it shall, in the opinion of the Go-
vernor, be expedient to change the purpose of such
reserves or any part thereof from the purpose or pre-
sumed purpose for which it was set apart to any
other purpose, or if it shall, in the opinion of the
Governor, be expedient to exchange any of the land
comprised in such reserve for other land of equal
value, to be dedicated to one or more purposes
named in the said Part II., the Governor may, by
notice in the Gazette, declare his intention to make
such change, exchange, or dedication, as the case may
be, and in such notice declare the manner and terms
in which the same is intended to be so made:
Now, therefore, I, Sir Hercules George Robert
Robinson, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, do hereby, in exercise and pursuance of
the powers and authorities vested in me by "The
Public Reserves Act Amendment Act, 1878," afore-
said, change the specific purpose of part of the
reserve described in the first column of the said
Schedule hereto to the specific purpose set opposite
such description in the third column of the said
Schedule, and such land shall henceforth be deemed
to be reserved and set apart for such last-mentioned
specific purpose, and no other.
